Maria Ohisalo, the former chairman of the Green Party and recent member of the European Parliament, shares her fresh feelings about Brussels on her Instagram account. The new European Parliament has started its work and every MEP has had the opportunity to get to know the Parliament’s work and operating methods.
Ohisalo says that the past weeks have contained a lot of different notes, passwords and learning new things.
– Then there was this application for rooms. Finally, when we got the key to that room, quite a surprise was revealed from there, Ohisalo says in the video.
The video shows Ohisalo walking towards his own office. Ohisalo describes the name plate next to the door, which reads “M. Ohisalo”.
– In fact, it turned out that our rooms are the former rooms of the German extreme right-wing party AfD, and all sorts of traces of them were found there, Ohisalo describes.
In the video, Ohisalo presents the items left in the room. There are moldy cigarette butts in the coffee cups, baskets with empty bottles can be seen in the cupboards and various refreshments in the fridge.
– The view is like this one on a Swedish ship. That is, to the interior of the parliament, Ohisalo describes the scenery visible from the window.
– The new office also has a toilet, which is a bit like a ship’s cabin. Here you can find shot glasses from the previous resident, razors and a toothpaste case, he continues.
Ohisalo says in the comments of his Instagram post that the former owners of the room have smoked cigarettes indoors.
– The whole place, with its carpets, smells like some kind of 70’s hovel, Ohisalo describes.
The Greens won two seats in the European elections. Ville Niinistö and Maria Ohisalo passed. In July, Niinistö started his second season as a coach. The former chairman of the Greens, Ohisalo, has previously worked as an MP and now left for Brussels.
