Helena from Helsinki opens up about her money problems in the Money Repair program. NUMI NUMELIN

In Nelonen’s new one Money repairIn the show, viewers get to see how a group of Finns want to get their finances in order.

The program is hosted by Jaana Pelkonen, who is known from TV, alongside whom the bank manager of Someron Säästöpank gives financial tips Joni Rintamaa.

The 44-year-old is seen in the first episode of the series Helena. Helena, who lives in Helsinki, works as a producer and is used to making budgets. However, the use of money in one’s own life is not as accurate.

The roots of Helena’s indebtedness go back to her student days, when she took out a student loan. However, after finishing her studies, paying off the loan was not easy because Helena worked in a low-paid job as a tour guide. Then the patterns entered the quick keys.

– It was one quick trip to another. You always had to take out a new quick tip in order to pay the previous ones. Then the bills couldn’t be paid anymore, Helena recalls in the episode.

The student loan went into foreclosure with quick tips. Over the years, Helena got her debt paid off. When Helena got her credit information back, the situation got out of hand.

In the episode, it appears that Helena has three credit cards with a total maximum limit of 8,800 euros. Used is 8,000 euros.

– I had never thought that I would be the type to just walk into a store and buy a five thousand euro Tempur bed as debt. That’s just how it happened. I signed the contract the same day my credit report came back. On the same day, I also went to a car dealership and took a leasing car. Then I’ve bought clothes on credit, ordered food from Wolt on credit, bought a dishwasher, washing machine, phones, electronics, robot vacuum cleaner, Helena, the list goes on.

The woman’s net income is currently 2,750 euros per month. He spends 1,100 euros per month on credit card expenses alone. Compared to net income, Helena’s overspending is 1,250 euros per month.

– When you compare that to your net income, it is quite a lot, Joni Rintamaa states.

The woman took slips of paper to the bank, which she claimed were 50 euro bills destroyed by the earthquake. Police

A woman from Pori went to the bank in October 2021 with 65 pieces of paper. He claimed them as damaged 50 euro bills.

The woman tried to get the bank to exchange them for new notes. The value of the notes would have been 3,250 euros.

The notes delivered by the woman ended up from the bank via the Bank of Finland to the forensic laboratory of the Central Criminal Police. There they found a lot of flaws.

Surprised by the criminal report

According to the woman, the banknotes were destroyed in the earthquake in Greece.

He said that he had withdrawn cash to buy the camera from different parts of Greece. The price of the camera was agreed to be 3,000 euros.

While the woman was at the camera seller’s house, an earthquake struck. The woman and the seller hurriedly left and the money packed in the bag remained in the house.

The woman later returned to the house, where a mess awaited her. The bag had melted and the bills and other items were a mess as strong cleaning agents, inks and fixatives had spilled out of the broken bottles. The bills had turned dark.

After getting home, the woman put the bills in water to soak, but the dark color did not go away.

Because of the wasted money, he contacted the bank and delivered the money there.

It came as a surprise to the woman that a criminal complaint was filed.

Only the size was right

The woman said that she tried to clean the “banknotes” by soaking them. Police

According to the forensic laboratory, the pieces of paper the woman brought to the bank resembled genuine 50 euro bills in size. In other respects, there were no indications of the characteristics of genuine euro banknotes.

The slips of paper did not have the printing ink of a genuine banknote or its remnants. They lacked a hologram or traces of glittery ink. There was no plastic safety window or opening. According to the laboratory’s statement, no thickness variation caused by the watermark was detected.

They also had no security wire inside the paper or any sign of it.

The woman wondered after the forensic laboratory’s statement that she had withdrawn possibly counterfeit money from the Greek bank.

Got fined

The district court of Satakunta did not consider the woman’s claims possible.

The court considered that the woman knew that the notes were not genuine. According to the court, the woman sought financial gain when she tried to mislead the bank.

The act remained an attempt when the alleged notes were submitted for investigations.

The district court convicted a woman born in 1960 of attempted fraud.

The sentence was 55 daily fines, of which he had to pay 330 euros.

The woman appealed her sentence to the Court of Appeal in Vaasa, but withdrew her appeal. The judgment of the district court therefore remained in force.
