Fresno, CA – As temperatures cool and leaves โขbegin to change, manny Central Valley residents are experiencing allergy symptoms mirroring springtime, prompting local doctors to offer advice on โmanaging โขthe seasonal shift.
fall โคallergies are arriving earlier and lasting longer, โaccording to Dr. Buddiga of โขa Northeast โFresno clinic. “Almost at the end of August to the first weeksโค ofโฃ September, I’ve โขbeen seeing fall โallergies,” heโฃ said, attributing the rise to blooming โragweed affecting both children and adults. This extended allergy season, coupled โฃwith fluctuating temperatures, poses a particular risk to individuals with asthma.
The symptoms of fall allergies are often indistinguishable from springโ allergies, including itchy eyes, โrunny noses, and throat congestion. Dr.โค Buddigaโข also notes a mild cough is a common indicator. While fall allergies typically peak aroundโ the end of October and beginning of โคNovember, the changing climate is causingโ symptoms โto appear sooner.
Older adults and young children with asthma are โespecially vulnerable when temperatures change. “Their lung tissue tends to constrictโ so it makes it harder for them to breathe in and โout,” Dr. โBuddiga explained, advising those individuals toโฃ utilize their inhalers as needed.
Fortunately, several strategies can help combat fall allergies. Dr.โ Buddiga recommends using nasal sprays, takingโฃ antihistamines, and employing sinus โrinses to clear nasal passages of pollen and โขdust. “It’s kind of like cleaning your nasal passages because that’s where mostโค of the pollen tends to accumulate,”โค he said. Air purifiers โequipped with HEPA filters canโ also considerably reduce airborneโฃ allergens.
Health experts emphasize that fall allergies shouldn’t disrupt daily life, but urge anyone experiencing worsening symptoms to consult a โขdoctor promptly.
