Sudan‘s Dagalo Pledges Unity, Accusesโ Brotherhood in Frist Post-Oath โSpeech
Nyala, Darfur – In his first address following hisโ swearing-in as โhead of Sudan’s governing coalition, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (“Dagalo”) committed to maintaining Sudan’s unity and establishing a system โฃguaranteeing equal citizenship rights. Delivered in Nyala, Darfur province, Dagalo’s speech outlined the coalition’s priorities and leveled accusations against the muslim Brotherhood, alleging they planned the conflict that erupted mid-April 2023.
Dagalo stated the war beginning April 15th was “imposed by theโข Brotherhood on rapid support after its siding withโ the framework agreement,” andโ called for “a transparentโข international examination that determines โขand set the war plans.” โฃHe also addressed โthe widespread human suffering, pledging cooperation with โฃthe international community to protect relief convoys and ensure safe passage for humanitarian aid.
The “Facilitation” alliance, led by Dagalo, affirmed its commitment to international covenants and treaties, and the pursuit of balanced relationsโ with neighboring countries.
The speech was followed by support marches in several Darfur regions. The Presidential Councilโ of the new government comprises 15 members representing all regions of Sudan, including regional rulers. The coalition aims to establish a civilian system based on the transitional constitution of Sudan for 2025, which abolishes the 2019 transitional document and priorโ legislation. Key tasks outlined in the constitution โขinclude ending ongoing conflicts and establishing a new foundation for theโค Sudanese state.
Currently, the โSudanese army controlsโ Khartoum, and theโ eastern, northern, and central regions, while the Rapid Support Forces control most of โDarfur – excluding El-Fasher – โand important portions of the Kordofan โขregion. These areasโข controlled by the Rapid Support Forces encompass approximately 870,000 square kilometers, representing over 45% ofโฃ Sudan’s total land area of 1.8 million square kilometers.
