Jakarta –

English League Cup Final (Carabao Cup) will bring together Manchester United vs Newcastle United. Check out 10 interesting data and facts about the big match.

Duel Manchester United vs Newcastle will be staged at Wembley Stadium on Sunday (26/2/2023). The match will kick off at 23.30 WIB.

The match will undoubtedly take place with high tension because both teams will be determined to win the trophy. United are looking to win their first trophy since winning the Europa League and League Cup in 2017, while Newcastle have not won anything since winning the Intertoto Cup in 2007.

MU will be more favored after being unbeaten in the last nine matches with seven wins. On the other hand, the Magpies have been less consistent after the turn of the year with only four wins, four draws and two defeats in their last 10 matches.

However, MU and Newcastle United have always played equally strong in the last two meetings between the two clubs, which took place in the Premier League. Including the 0-0 draw at Old Trafford in the Premier League last October.

Following are 10 data and facts from the English League Cup final match between MU vs Newcastle United, as summarized from Eight:

1. Manchester United against Newcastle United will be the 19th match played as a League Cup and FA Cup final. These two teams met in the 1999 FA Cup final, with Man Utd winning 2-0 to secure the second part of a historic treble by winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

2. Manchester United have won two of their three League Cup meetings with Newcastle (losing 1), with this the first since a 2-1 home win in September 2012.

3. This was Newcastle United’s first League Cup final since 1976, with the longest gap of 47 years between finals in League Cup history. The Magpies have lost their last four finals in their major competition (1974, 1998 and 1999 FA Cup final, and 1976 League Cup final) since a 6-2 aggregate win in the 1969 Fairs Cup final against Hungarian side Ujpest.

4. Manchester United are competing in their 10th League Cup final, with only Liverpool (13) having played in more. Only Liverpool (9) and Manchester City (8) have won more trophies than the Red Devils (5). Meanwhile, only Arsenal (6) and Tottenham (5) have lost more League Cup finals than Man Utd (4).

5. Newcastle United have suffered defeat in their last eight matches at Wembley. This is the longest losing streak ever experienced by a team at Wembley in history. Newcastle’s last win at the national stadium was in the 1955 FA Cup final against Manchester City, 67 years and 295 days from the date of this match.

6. This will be Manchester United’s 53rd game at Wembley Stadium (neutral venues only), at least 11 more than any other team. Meanwhile, United will become the third team to play 20 games (neutral) at the stadium since it reopened in 2007, after Chelsea (28) and Manchester City (21).

7. Since the 2009/2010 season, when Eddie Howe first took charge of the League Cup, no manager has had more wins in the competition than him (22, level with Pep Guardiola). Howe will become the first Englishman to win the League Cup since Steve McClaren in 2003/2004 with Middlesbrough. However, English managers have lost five finals since then (Jewell, Redknapp, Parkinson, Smith, Mason).

8. Bos Manchester United Erik ten Hag will become the first Dutch manager to take charge of a team in a League Cup final. Dutch managers have won three of their four domestic cup finals in England (all FA Cup, namely Ruud Gullit 1997, Guus Hiddink 2009, Louis van Gaal 2016), with the exception of Ruud Gullit’s Newcastle which lost 0-2 against Manchester United in 1999 .

9. Newcastle striker Callum Wilson scored at Wembley for England against the United States in November 2019. Wilson could become the third player to score for Newcastle and the national team at the stadium after Jackie Milburn and Robert Lee.

10. Striker Manchester United Marcus Rashford has been involved in 18 goals in his last 15 League Cup appearances, scoring 12 goals and assisting six. This season alone Rashford has scored five goals and two assists in five games, averaging one goal or assist every 40 minutes in this season’s competition.

Jadon Sancho finally back together Manchester United after being sidelined for more than three months. Manager Erik ten Hag happy with the return of the 22-year winger.

Sancho entered in the 62nd minute to replace Antony when MU beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the second leg of the English League Cup semifinal, Thursday (2/2/2023) early morning WIB at Old Trafford. Action on the field can be said not too much.

His pass to Bruno Fernandes on the right was then turned into a cross into the penalty box which Marcus Rashford received. The 25-year-old striker then sent a mature pass which Fred completed in front of the Nottingham goal.

Sancho’s presence was welcomed by MU fans who gave him applause. He smiled with Ten Hag on the sidelines just before coming on. The manager is also happy that his players are contributing again.

“We had to make a lot of compromises this season. Hopefully now those who have returned can continue to be available to play,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports after the game.

“If you want to win a trophy, you need the presence of all the players. You see, we can bring something fresh from the bench,” explained the Dutch manager.

MU’s two goals in this match only came when MU introduced the trio of Sancho, Rashford and Anthony Martial in the second half. Sancho played a part in the process of the second goal, Martial scored the first goal, and Rashford was always present in the process of the two goals.

Prior to this match, Sancho last played for MU on October 22 in the match against Chelsea in the Premier League. After that, he was no longer fielded because he was considered not in the best condition.

During the 2022 World Cup break, Sancho was sent to the Netherlands and underwent private training to recover physically and mentally. Ten Hag said he would return to playing Sancho when the conditions were right. He proved that against Nottingham.

Manchester –

I took five weeks off Manchester United “Hungry”. Unfortunate for Burnley which became the meal of the Red Devils.

The competition in Europe took a break for more than a month because it was there World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Manchester United is a club that can be lifted because the World Cup is over.

Because there were about 13 MU players who went to defend their national team, with two players returning later because they appeared in the final, namely Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Both were absent when MU hosted Burnley Carabao Cup Fourth Round 2022/2023, Thursday (22/12/2022) early morning WIB. Meanwhile, five players such as Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Marcus Rashford left immediately.

MU, who dominated from the start, took the lead in the 27th minute thanks to a goal from Eriksen, which ended a string of team passes to dismantle the Burnley defence.

Rashford in the second half doubled MU’s lead to 2-0 and it lasted until the end of the fight. MU consistently entered the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup, with 55% possession and six shots on goal out of a total of 11 in 90 minutes.

Performance that satisfied coach Erik ten Hag as the new players returned after more than a month away. Player hunger is the key to MU victory.

“You never know what it’s going to be like, because it’s always difficult to show up after the international break, especially as they haven’t played together for five weeks. I don’t think the team that was fielded this time has never played together. But they played according to the our wishes and our style of play. I am satisfied with the performance and the result,” said Ten Hag. Sky Sports.

“The players are so hungry after the World Cup break. It’s good to see the first goal of good teamwork.”
