Emerson Royal Reflects on Flamengo Move, Brazilian National Team Aspirations
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Brazilian defender Emerson royal has expressed his satisfaction with his move to Flamengo, emphasizing the clubS stature and the challenging atmosphere of playing at the Maracanรฃ.Royal, who recently joined the Rio de Janeiro giants, also addressed his career trajectory and his ongoing ambition to represent the Brazilian national team.Royal acknowledged the formidable challenge of facing Flamengo at their home ground, the Maracanรฃ Stadium. “I want to thank the effort that Flamengo made. I’m very happy,” he stated, highlighting the intimidating presence of the Flamengo fanbase. “I’ve played against them before, it’s difficult to play in Maracanรฃ against Flamengo, your legs shake.”
Addressing concerns that a return to Brazil might signify a career regression, Royal firmly refuted the notion, citing Flamengo’s global reputation. “I had other proposals, but I came to Flamengo,” he asserted. “Many people said that going back to Brazil I was going to regress in my career. Quite the contrary, Flamengo is a huge team, a giant club, one of the largest in the world. Wherever I went, everyone knows Flamengo.”
The defender also spoke about his aspirations for the Brazilian national team. While admitting that a past mistake may have cost him a place in the 2022 World Cup squad, Royal remains committed to his national team dreams. “There was this episode in 2022, there are things that can’t happen and sadly it happened to me,” he reflected. “I remained quiet and working. I know my potential and I will continue to do my job to have an opportunity again.”
Royal also took the opportunity to praise his compatriot, Danilo, for his significant support during his career. He recalled a difficult period where Danilo’s encouragement proved invaluable. “Danilo was a very significant person. As I arrived in the national team,he has always helped me a lot,” royal shared. “He is a guy who needs no comments as a person and as a player.He always put me up, even when things didn’t go as I wanted.” He further detailed Danilo’s supportive gesture during a period of personal setback, stating, “in that call (when it failed), it was Danilo and Danilo was not. And yet he sent me a message, giving me strength, saying that this is part of football.”
