Viktoria Plzeň has completed its first Europa League match, in which it faced Eintracht Frankfurt, which won the competition two years ago. Eintracht already led 3:1 at home in front of 56,500 spectators, but Viktoria tied the game at 3:3 with a sensational finish and thus take the first point in the table from Germany.

In the first half, Eintracht controlled the game and created more pressure than Pilsen. He was able to turn it into a goal in the 38th minute, when Rasmus Kristensen found a pass from Ekitike in the box, who beat Jedlička with a ground shot to the left post.

But Plzeň was able to respond quickly. Three minutes later, Kalvach’s shot on the edge of the penalty area was blocked by a Frankfurt player, but the deflected ball then reached Šulc, who made no mistake.

The score changed again in the second half. In the 62nd minute, Junior Dina Ebimbe scored, who was found by Hugo Ekitike with a clever pass behind the defence. And Eintracht had a good shot. Five minutes later, Kristensen scored after a corner kick and the German club already led 3:1.

The two-goal lead satisfied the Bundesliga team and Plzeň was able to respond. Jemelka’s cross for the defense hit Prince Kwaben Ada from the first touch, and in the 87th minute a dramatic end to the match was looming. In it, Plzeň tried to equalize and finally succeeded. After a scrum in front of Santos’ goal, he got to Jemelka’s stop and didn’t hesitate. Pilsen tied the score at 3:3 in the 93rd minute, and since the Ukrainian referee Balakin stopped the match a minute later, he takes home a valuable point from Germany.

Eintracht Frankfurt Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp Expresses Concerns Over Negative Atmosphere as European Cup Places Hang in Balance

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 7, 2024

Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp recognizes an alarming mood at European Cup contender Eintracht Frankfurt in the final push for the international places. “Somehow there is a very, very negative cloud hanging over us. We were sometimes rightly criticized because the games were simply not nice and the results were not there,” said the 33-year-old goalkeeper on Friday evening on Dazn. The Hessians had previously lost important points in the fight for the Europa League in a 1-1 draw against Werder Bremen.

“It’s incredibly annoying because we actually played a good game. If you only get two points at home against Union and Bremen, there are reasons for that. Maybe it’s deserved in the end,” complained Trapp. With 42 points, Frankfurt is still in sixth place. The remaining games with games against VfB Stuttgart, FC Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen are demanding. “The remaining program is brutal. We still have everything in our own hands,” said Trapp.

Coach Dino Toppmöller also struggled with the draw. “It’s disappointing and frustrating when you don’t come out of a game like this with a win. “We have planned much more,” said the head coach. Almost a week ago, the Hessians missed a home win in a 0-0 draw against 1. FC Union Berlin. The impending failures of Ellyes Shkiri (injured) and Tuta (red card) are further worrying Toppmöller.

Amos Pieper from Bremen was injured again during his comeback

However, the Bremen team were quite happy with their first point win after four defeats in a row with the 1:1. “The way we played speaks for the character of the players and the team. These are not easy weeks. We have to compensate for a lot of personnel issues,” said coach Ole Werner.

And another problem arises on the next matchday in the game at Bayer Leverkusen. Amos Pieper, a professional who had just celebrated his comeback after a break of over six months, was injured. “He took a hit to his ankle and is in pain. He can still go. It’s not like he was on crutches,” said head coach Ole Werner late on Friday evening.

The 26-year-old defensive player, who had to be substituted in the 51st minute, experienced the wild second half, including two dismissals, from outside. Pieper broke his right ankle in October and was out for months. It initially remained unclear whether the injury on Friday evening was related to this. “I can’t say all that yet,” said Werner. (dpa)

Frankfurt/Main – Amos Pieper sat on the lawn of the Frankfurt European Championship stadium and fought back tears. After more than half a year of injury, the Werder Bremen central defender’s comeback in the Bundesliga ended with an injury.

“He took a hit to his ankle and is in pain. He can still go. It’s not like he was on crutches,” said head coach Ole Werner.

Eintracht Frankfurt Secures Last-Second Draw Against VfL Wolfsburg Amid Fan Protests

Eintracht Frankfurt was able to fight for a draw in the Bundesliga against VfL Wolfsburg at the last second. Fans protested again against investors.

The Eintracht Frankfurt players took a deep breath because they were just able to prevent the next defeat in the Bundesliga. The Hessians separated from VfL Wolfsburg 2:2 (1:2).

Coach Dino Toppmöller’s team was unable to achieve any success in the last six games – but at least averted a real crisis. “Another nightmare start. But the team showed a good reaction and were able to take the audience with them again,” said Toppmöller. The team showed good morale at the end. “We all wanted our three points. But we can build on this performance in terms of morale.”

The Lower Saxony team remains without a win this year and has now been without a sense of success for eight games.

Wolfsburg attack tactics

The Wolfsburg team used the opening minutes to literally run over Eintracht. And this attack tactic from coach Nico Kovac should pay off after around 90 seconds of play. First, VfL midfielder Maximilian Arnold hit the post from a distance, after a cross from Jonas Wind, Maxence Lacroix was there and headed in from close range to make it 1-0 for Lower Saxony (2nd minute).

The Frankfurt team initially seemed shocked and had great difficulty finding their way into their game. But little by little, coach Toppmöller’s team rallied and played more structured.

Max scores the interim equalizer for Frankfurt

A courageous individual action then brought the first success: Eintracht attacker Hugo Ekitike suddenly broke through on the left side and fed Philipp Max, who was running along, at the right moment, who was able to convert from eight meters from half left to make it 1-1 (14th).

As a result, an open game developed in which Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp initially saved his team from falling behind again. VfL offensive player Lovro Majer (25th) had the ball on his feet ten meters in front of the Frankfurt goal, Trapp threw himself into the shot and parried.

Both teams tried to set an offensive tone, but Wolfsburg were the more effective, more powerful team. VfL attacker Kevin Behrens put his team back in the lead 2-1 (36th) with a header from five meters after a cross from defender Joakim Mæhle,

Protests in Frankfurt against investors

Shortly after the restart, the game had to be interrupted for around six minutes because tennis balls and bouncy balls were thrown onto the lawn from the Frankfurt fan curve. The protest was directed against investor-run clubs in the Bundesliga.

The teams were now acting more and more incorrectly and poorly. Both teams hardly even had a good idea how to play in front of the opponent’s goal. The Hessians in particular kept getting stuck. However, Eintracht attacker Ansgar Knauff still had a chance to score (68′), but his aim was too imprecise.

The Frankfurters then tried everything again to create scoring opportunities against the compact Wolfsburg defense. And this feat of strength was rewarded. Omar Marmoush scored the celebrated equalizer and final score in stoppage time (90+2).

Frankfurt in Heidenheim, Wolfsburg against Stuttgart

Next Saturday, Eintracht Frankfurt has to play against strong newcomers 1.FC Heidenheim (3:30 p.m.). VfL Wolfsburg welcomes VfB Stuttgart in the evening game (6.30 p.m.).
