Daisy edgar-Jones, Emilia Jones to Star in “Bad Bridgets,” LuckyChapS Next Feature
LOS ANGELES, CA - Daisy Edgar-Jones (“Normal People,” “Fresh”) and Emilia Jones (“CODA,” “Cat Person”) are set to lead “Bad bridgets,” the second feature from BAFTA-winning director Rich Peppiatt (“Kneecap”). LuckyChap Entertainment will produce the film,wich Peppiatt also wrote,with FilmNation handling sales and launching the project at the American Film Market.
Inspired by Elaine Farrell and Leanne McCormick’s book “Bad Bridget: Crime, Mayhem, and the Lives of Irish Emigrant Women,” “Bad Bridgets” will follow a young woman’s dangerous journey from famine-stricken Ireland to 19th-century New York, where she joins a community of Irish immigrant women known as “Bridgets” who are notorious for causing trouble. The script was developed with support from Queens University, Belfast.
Peppiatt and “Kneecap” producer Trevor Birney optioned the book earlier this year through their banner, Coup d’Etat Films, launched in 2024. Production is slated to begin in Northern Ireland and Ireland in spring 2026, with Oscar-winning production designer James Price and costume designer Kate Hawley already attached.
Peppiatt’s directorial debut, ”Kneecap,” a comedy-biopic about the belfast rap trio of the same name, premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, winning the NEXT Audience Award and garnering critical acclaim. The film, starring the Kneecap band members and featuring Michael Fassbender, became the most nominated debut in BAFTA history, winning Outstanding Debut by a British Filmmaker, and received seven British Independent Film Awards, five IFTAs, and the Breakthrough British/Irish Filmmaker award from the London Critics Circle.Ireland has submitted “Kneecap” for consideration in the 2025 Oscars and it made the international feature shortlist.
