Colombia is poised to โboast the longest โคvehicular tunnel in Latinโฃ America as construction progresses on the New road to the Sea project. The main tunnel, currently under development byโค Invรญas, โwill be a key component of theโ route connecting Medellรญnโ to the Pacific coast.
The ambitious โคinfrastructure project, fully funded by the Government of Antioquia and the Mayor’s Office of Medellรญn, aims to dramatically improve connectivity and trade opportunities for the region. โคCompletion of the entireโฃ project is targeted โฃforโ 2027, with the installation of electromechanical systems โ- including ventilation, lighting, and security equipment – scheduled for โ2026. Currently,workโ continues on lining theโข main tunnel andโ paving the corridor.
Construction is also underway on a 6.2-kilometer sectionโค (sector 2) featuring twelve bridges and sixโ tunnels, with progress exceeding 60%. Officials anticipateโ completing two major 250-meter bridges beforeโข December 2026. The New Road to the โฃSea isโ envisioned as a vital artery for economic development, facilitatingโค the transport of goods and people between Medellรญn and the โฃPacific coast, and positioning Colombia as a key โplayer in regional trade.
