A Yorktown woman, identified as Mickler, is facing twelve felony charges related to fraudulent documentation used in home mortgage loans. The charges, filed on July 1, stem from an investigation by the Federal Housing Finance Agency and the U.S.Department of housing and Urban Progress.

The suspected fraudulent activity occurred over a one-year period starting in January 2022.investigators found several instances where Mickler allegedly submitted loan applications with falsified financial information.Examples include:

DOJ Sues Over Immigration Enforcement, Bondi Drops Doctor Case

by Priya Shah – Business Editor July 14, 2025

Utah Doctor Accused of Falsifying COVID-19 Vaccine Records Has Case Dropped

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on July 12 that a case against Utah doctor michael Kirk Moore Jr.has been dropped. Moore was accused of falsifying COVID-19 vaccination certificates and destroying over $28,000 worth of government-provided vaccines.

Bondi stated that Moore did not deserve the jail time he was facing, as he provided patients with a choice when the federal government did not. Moore was indicted in 2023, and his trial had commenced earlier this month.

The Trump administration has shown support for COVID-19 vaccine skeptics. Health Secretary Robert F.Kennedy Jr. praised Moore’s “courage and his commitment to healing.”

Moore allegedly ran the false certification scheme from a plastic surgery center, administering saline shots to minors to make it appear they received COVID-19 vaccines.

U.S. lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene also championed the dropping of the case, calling Moore a hero and stating, “We can never again allow our government to turn tyrannical under our watch.”

This decision by Bondi comes amid scrutiny of her dismissal of senior Justice Department officials involved in investigations into Trump, raising concerns about political retribution.

Luis Alvarez, the man lauded for his bravery in rescuing a 9-year-old girl from a shark attack off the Florida coast, now faces possible deportation. The 31-year-old resident of lehigh Acres, florida, was arrested for driving without a valid license just days after the harrowing incident.

Alvarez was pulled over around 1:30 a.m. on June 14 in Collier County, approximately 140 miles northwest of Miami, after police noticed he was operating a gray SUV without headlights. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office reported that Alvarez presented a photo of his Employment authorization Card when asked for his driver’s license, admitting he had never possessed one in his two and a half years in the United States.

Currently, Alvarez is in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody, with a court appearance scheduled for July 9. USA TODAY has reached out to ICE for further details regarding his detention.

Did You Know? According to the florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, there were 69 unprovoked shark bites in Florida in 2023, representing 44% of the total unprovoked bites in the U.S. and 28% worldwide.

Details of the Arrest

During the traffic stop, Alvarez reportedly told the arresting officer, in Spanish, that he had been in the U.S. for two and a half years and had never obtained a driver’s license. He was subsequently arrested and also received a warning for the headlight violation.

The arrest report identifies Alvarez as a native of Boaco, Nicaragua. Court records confirm his detainment by ICE.

Prior Arrests

While Collier County records show no prior arrests for Alvarez, similar charges of driving without a valid license appear in Lee County, dating back to December 2023. He faced multiple judges, paying fines or receiving withheld adjudication in those cases. A D6 suspension was issued on June 23, preventing him from applying for a license due to unpaid fines.

Heroic Shark Rescue

On June 11,Alvarez was present on the beach when 9-year-old Leah Lendel was attacked by a shark just feet from the shore in Boca Grande,Florida. The attack nearly severed her hand.

Thanks to swift action at the scene and rapid transport to Tampa General Hospital, surgeons successfully reattached Lendel’s hand. she is currently recovering from the ordeal.

Pro Tip: When swimming in the ocean, avoid wearing shiny jewelry, which can resemble fish scales and attract sharks.

Raynel Lugo, Lendel’s sister, recounted to Fox4 News how Alvarez bravely entered the water to scare the shark away, allowing her to assist Leah. Lugo stated that Alvarez fearlessly dove deep underwater, facing the shark head-on.

Body camera footage from a responding Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputy captured the scene, showing Alvarez and others near the water as Leah received medical attention from EMS.

Alvarez, communicating through an interpreter, described the shark to first responders as approximately eight feet long. Experts suspect it may have been a bull shark, known for its aggressive behaviour in Florida waters.
