Trump’s⁤ Conditions for Increased⁣ Sanctions

Former US ⁢President Donald Trump has publicly⁤ outlined his conditions for the implementation of more severe penalties against Russia in ⁤relation to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. In a statement released via his social media ⁣platform, ⁢Truth Social, Trump stipulated that meaningful ⁣sanctions ⁣against Moscow are contingent upon two key actions⁢ by NATO member states.

Firstly, Trump demands a complete halt to all purchases of Russian oil by ⁤every NATO country. He expressed concern that continued oil purchases by some NATO ⁢members significantly undermine the⁣ alliance’s negotiating position and ⁢leverage against⁤ Russia.‍ He stated, “I am ready to⁢ impose severe ⁣penalties for⁣ Russia when all NATO countries ‌have⁤ agreed and started doing the same and when all NATO countries will ⁢stop buying oil from Russia.”

Secondly, Trump proposed‍ the imposition‍ of tariffs ranging ‌from 50% to 100% on goods imported from China by ‌NATO nations. He suggested these tariffs should be lifted entirely upon‍ the resolution of the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump believes this ⁢measure would weaken China’s influence over Russia, stating, “China has strong control, and even a socket on Russia, and these⁤ powerful‍ rates will break that grip.”

Concerns Over NATO’s Commitment

Trump’s statement directly addressed what he perceives as a lack⁢ of unified commitment within NATO to fully address ⁣the situation in Ukraine. He specifically criticized the continued purchase of Russian oil ⁤by ⁢some member states, labeling ⁣it “shocking” and detrimental to a strong negotiating stance.

He added, “As you know, NATO’s commitment ⁣to win was far from 100% and the purchase of Russian oil⁣ by‍ some was shocking!” He concluded his message wiht a direct challenge to NATO, ⁣stating, “In any case, I’m ready to start when you are. Tell ‌me only when.”

The‍ Role of china

Trump’s proposal to impose tariffs on China highlights his belief that Beijing exerts significant control over Moscow⁢ and is a key factor in prolonging the conflict.‌ He argues that significant tariffs would disrupt this dynamic and incentivize ⁤China to play a more⁣ constructive role in resolving the war.

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor September 13, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

NATO Responds to Poland Drone Incursion,Emphasizes ⁣Adaptive Learning

following a⁢ recent drone incursion into Poland,Supreme Allied Commander Europe,General Alexus Grynkewich, defended the timing and effectiveness of the Eastern Sentry operation, stating NATO was “well positioned” to respond. speaking at a press conference ⁢in Brussels alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Grynkewich highlighted the swift ‌action taken during the incident.

he explained that ‌delegated authorities from the North Atlantic Council allowed crews to act ⁢decisively and neutralize a important‍ portion of⁤ the‍ threat targeting Poland. “I don’t think we⁤ are recovering ground,”‍ Grynkewich asserted, “I think ‌we ‌were quite well positioned for that event.”

Despite ⁣this assessment, the General acknowledged the unprecedented scale of the drone incursion. While NATO had previously encountered smaller numbers of drones, ⁣the recent event necessitated a reevaluation of current strategies. “It is time to look at the thing from a new viewpoint,” he stated.

Grynkewich emphasized NATO’s commitment to ‍continuous learning and adaptation. The ongoing Eastern Sentry operation is intended to enhance capabilities⁤ and address⁤ the lessons learned from ‍this recent event. He affirmed that the allied command Operations is dedicated to rapidly ‌incorporating these lessons to ensure the defence of every inch of NATO territory.

“We are always learning, and NATO is an institution that learns,” Grynkewich concluded.

Taliban Airspace Profits: Flights Surge Amid Economic Crisis

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor September 12, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Taliban revenue ⁣Soars as Airspace Becomes Unexpected Economic Lifeline

Despite ongoing economic hardship and limited international recognition, the Taliban are generating meaningful revenue through control of Afghan airspace, benefiting from a⁤ resurgence in air traffic. While concerns about security lingered after the Taliban takeover, air travel over⁤ and to Afghanistan has largely returned to normal, creating a surprising financial boon for the regime.

According‌ to aerfinal consultant‌ Xavier Tytelman, “There is no soil-to-air risk in‍ Afghanistan.” He notes the normalization of air traffic, with daily flights landing ‍in Kabul. Airlines like Turkish Airlines, Flydubai, and Airarabia currently serve the Afghan capital on an ⁤almost daily basis. Furthermore, major international carriers ‌including Singapore Airlines, Air france, Aeroflot, and Swiss Air ‌are utilizing Afghan airspace over cities like Kabul, Mazar-E-Sharif, and Kandahar, indicating⁣ a perceived⁣ level of air ‍safety.

However, maintaining operational capacity presents challenges. Tytelman points to the difficulty of sourcing spare parts for aircraft⁢ due to‌ limited imports,⁣ potentially complicating emergency landings. He also raises concerns about airspace capacity, noting a significant increase in daily flights from 50 to 280, potentially straining the Taliban’s air traffic control infrastructure. the question arises whether⁤ the Taliban‌ will eventually be forced to limit flights due‍ to‌ capacity issues and‍ the⁤ state of their control systems.

for the Taliban,‌ whose government is ⁢officially recognized only by Russia, the revenue generated from airspace access is a crucial source⁣ of income amidst a severe economic crisis, exacerbated by frozen Afghan assets and international sanctions.

Industry sources, speaking anonymously, reveal that Kabul receives royalties from airlines through intermediaries, notably Emirati‌ company Gaac Holding, which manages Afghan airports. Many⁤ airlines contacted by AFP declined to comment on payment procedures,⁤ citing caution about associating with ⁢the Taliban regime.⁣

While‌ no ⁢formal prohibition exists for companies to trade with Afghanistan – US sanctions target specific ‍Taliban officials‍ – some ⁢businesses are hesitant due to reputational concerns. Suleiman Ben Shah, former⁣ deputy minister for industry and trade, estimates the annual revenue from these royalties to ⁤be “tens of millions of euros.”

Afghan aviation officials have declined to provide ‍specific details‌ regarding ‍the amount of fees collected or⁢ the mechanisms involved. However, Ben Shah emphasizes the strategic importance of this revenue stream, stating that control of airspace “strengthens the stranglehold (of the government) on the sovereign functions ‍of⁢ the State and ⁤strengthens its image⁢ of operational authority, even without (broad) international recognition.”

In essence, the resumption of air travel, driven by global connectivity needs, has inadvertently provided a significant financial lifeline to the Taliban, bolstering their control and offering⁤ a rare source of economic‍ stability in a nation grappling with profound challenges.

Sept 11 Attacks: What Happened, Flags at Half-Staff & Patriot Day

by David Harrison – Chief Editor September 12, 2025

Flags at Half-Staff ‍Across New York State on Patriot Day

NEW YORK – ⁢ Flags across ‌New York State are flying at half-staff today,‍ september 11, 2025, in solemn remembrance of⁢ the⁤ nearly 3,000 lives lost in⁢ the⁣ terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The lowering of⁢ the flag⁢ is a longstanding tradition observed annually to honor the victims and heroes of that ‍tragic day, and to reaffirm a national commitment to unity and remembrance.

Twenty-four years after the ⁤attacks,⁣ Patriot ⁣Day remains a notable day of reflection for New Yorkers and the nation. While not a federal holiday – ⁣government⁣ offices‍ remain open and mail delivery continues – the day‌ is officially recognized through public law, encouraging remembrance activities, flag displays at half-staff, and ⁢moments of silence. This year’s‍ observance⁤ comes as‌ the nation continues ‍to grapple with issues of ⁢national‌ security⁣ and the enduring legacy of ⁢9/11.

In December 2001, Public ⁣Law ⁤107-89 was‍ enacted, officially‍ designating September 11th as Patriot Day.The law requests⁢ the⁢ President⁣ to⁢ issue a proclamation calling‍ for⁤ state and local governments to observe the‍ day⁢ with programs and activities, for ⁢the U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff in⁣ memory of those who perished, and for a moment of silence to be observed nationwide.

Further solidifying the day’s significance, Public Law ⁤111-13, ⁣passed in 2009, designated September 11th as the National ⁢Day of Service and Remembrance,⁢ encouraging⁤ Americans to honor‌ the victims through volunteerism and⁤ community service.

HBCU Lockdowns: Threats Spark Campus Closures Across US

by Emma Walker – News Editor September 11, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

Sept 11 Attacks: What Happened, Flags at Half-Staff & Patriot Day

HBCUs inspired people like Kamala Harris; here’s why they’re important

Kamala Harris, Oprah Winfrey are just two notable alumni from historically Black colleges and universities. Here’s how HBCUs have changed over time.

Just the FAQs, USA TODAY

Multiple Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have gone into lockdown after threats were directed at the campus, school officials announced.

Alabama State University, Hampton University, Virginia State University, Southern University and A&M Collegeand Bethune-Cookman University locked down the morning of Thursday, Sept. 11, each citing potential threats made against the campuses. The lockdown at Southern University was later lifted, but all campus activities and classes were cancelled through the weekend, school officials announced on social media.

Spelman College in Atlanta also asked students and faculty to avoid campus and increased security measures due to a threat against nearby Clark Atlanta University, though the shelter-in-place order was later lifted. Clark Atlanta University confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY that campus police are investigating threats and a shelter-in-place order has ended.

Virginia State shared an “urgent alert” at 8:30 a.m. ET, declaring the campus closed and advising students, faculty, and staff to check their emails. Campus police are “actively investigating the credibility of the threat received earlier today” along with local, state and federal law enforcement partners, the university said in a statement.

Alabama State told USA TODAY in a statement that it received “terrorist threats” and that it had shut down campus operations out of an abundance of caution.

“We are working in close coordination with the appropriate law enforcement agencies to assess the situation and to ensure the safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and the broader ASU community,” the statement said.

Hampton University canceled classes for Sept. 11 and 12, saying in a statement“Hampton University has received notice of a potential threat and has ceased all non-essential activity, effective immediately.”

Lockdowns follow years of threats, violence at HBCUs

MSNBC host Rev. Al Sharpton condemned the threats, noting that several of the nation’s roughly 100 HBCUs have been targeted in recent years. USA TODAY found more than two dozen HBCUs in 12 states and Washington, D.C., were targeted by bomb threats in 2022prompting a federal hate crime and violent extremism investigation.

In 2023, officials said a gunman was confronted by campus security at Edward Waters University, the first historically Black college in Florida, before shooting three people at a nearby Dollar General store. Students at Tuskegee University, a private, historically Black institution, were among those wounded after gunfire erupted on campus in 2024leaving one person dead and 16 others injured.

“We have seen too much violence on our campuses, whether it was the brazen murder of Charlie Kirk yesterday or the threats against these HBCUs today,” Sharpton said in a statement. “Colleges and Universities should be a place of free expression and debate in a way that’s respectful, engaging, and productive. What we have seen the last two days is anything but that.”
