Next Tuesday, October 3, the vaccination campaign against flu and covid-19 will begin with institutionalized people, specifically in the San Antonio de Padua, Hogar San José, San Antonio, Noviciado and La Fuente residences. In this flu vaccination campaign, the Ministry of Health has assigned 66,866 doses to the province, which will be received weekly. Of them, 25,998 are quadrivalent inactivated vaccine, which can be administered from 6 months of age and preferably intended for the healthy general population between 6 and 23 months and between 60 and 64 years, as well as people included in risk groups. ; 34,610 are doses of adjuvanted tetravalent inactivated vaccine, for the non-institutionalized general population aged 65 years and older; 4,608 quadrivalent inactivated units with a high antigenic load, intended for the population over 60 years of age institutionalized in nursing homes for the elderly and highly dependent people in their homes; 20 tetravalent inactivated vaccines, for people allergic to antibiotics, and 1,630 doses of tetravalent attenuated vaccine for intranasal administration whose target population is children between 24 and 59 months.

Regarding covid-19, the one that will be administered in the 2023-2024 season is a monovalent vaccine against the XBB.1.5 subvariant of the omicron strain, preferably XBB.1.5, which ensures protection against circulating strains of Sars -CoV-2. Until the last week of October, Castilla y León will receive just over 400,000 doses from the Ministry of Health, 47,828 for Palencia.

The vaccination campaign will begin on October 3 (it will last until the 31st in urban health centers and until the 11th in rural ones), for the institutionalized population, immobilized people, health and socio-health personnel and will continue on the 11th (until end of the campaign) for risk groups and cohabitants and the general population – aged 60 and over, starting with those aged 80 and over – who will have to make an appointment.

In the case of people institutionalized in residences, their vaccination will be carried out by health professionals from the health area, who will go to these institutions to administer both vaccines. Their presence will be used to inject the professionals who work there.

Rubio recalled that vaccination against flu and covid-19 is indicated for people 60 years of age or older; 5 years or more confined in disability centers and nursing homes, as well as other long-term institutionalized people and residents in closed institutions.

Vaccination is also recommended for people under 60 years of age with, among other risk conditions, diabetes mellitus and Cushing’s syndrome, morbid obesity, chronic cardiovascular, neurological or respiratory diseases, hemoglobinopathies and anemias or hemophilia, severe neuromuscular diseases, immunosuppression (immunodeficiencies primary and that caused by HIV infection or drugs, as well as in transplant recipients and complement deficiency), cancer and malignant hemopathies, cerebrospinal fluid fistula and cochlear implant or awaiting it, celiac disease, chronic inflammatory disease , disorders and diseases that lead to cognitive dysfunction: Down syndrome, dementia and others.

Another of the objectives of vaccination against influenza in the entire National Health System is that of pregnant women. In the case of Palencia, in the previous campaign, 127 of them were vaccinated, 22.76% of pregnant women.

Finally, it should be noted that 1,466 workers received the flu dose through occupational/mutual risk prevention services.
