Incident Details

The incident occurred around 9:30 AM on Wednesday. According to the homeowner, Nandeesh, a BBMP staff member affixed a survey sticker to his house before seeking any information. When Nandeesh questioned the procedure, he was allegedly assaulted.

CCTV footage captured the altercation, quickly spreading on social media, leading to widespread condemnation.

Staffer’s Version

The BBMP staffer, identified as Suresh, has a different account. According to The New Indian Express, Suresh claimed that the homeowner used abusive language and attempted to assault him first. Suresh admitted to pushing Nandeesh in anger after the alleged attempted assault.

This incident highlights broader concerns about the methodology and training employed in caste surveys. For example, a 2023 study by the National Human Rights Commission found that lack of proper training for field staff often leads to flawed data collection and public mistrust (NHRC).

Previous Concerns
