Berlin – CDU Bundestag member Tilman Kuban is facing investigation following a criminal complaint filed by his wife, Dominique Emerich, amidst their separation. Kuban has temporarily stepped down as spokesman and chairman of the European Union Affairs Working Group, with Roland Theis taking his place.
The allegations stem from disputes related to the couple’s separation, details of wich remain undisclosed. Emerich confirmed the separation to Bild newspaper, stating, “It is true that my husband and I have been officially separated for several months. I don’t want to comment on anything else.” Kuban and Emerich married in September 2023.
In an email to his Union parliamentary group colleagues, Kuban stated he ”vehemently” denies the accusations, adding they are occurring during “very contentious custody proceedings” involving their son. He emphasized the importance of protecting privacy but pledged openness.
Kuban’s parliamentary immunity was lifted, a standard procedure that did not require a formal resolution from the Petitions Committee, as no member requested its preservation. The Union parliamentary group leadership stated the allegations are being taken “very seriously” but affirmed the presumption of innocence. They also confirmed Kuban’s Bundestag mandate is unaffected and exclusion from the group is not currently under consideration. Kuban was absent from last week’s meetings due to sick leave.
Kuban served as the head of the CDU youth organization Junge union from 2019 to 2022 and was elected to the Bundestag in 2021.
