O’Higgins and Everton faced each other this Saturday for date 3 of the Chile – 2024 Banco Itaú Championship tournament and the victory went to the local team 2-1. Everton dominated the start of the match and, in the 12th minute of the first half, took the lead after a header from Matías Campos. However, the joy was dampened when Esteban Calderón equalized the score with a shot after 49 minutes of the same stage. O’Higgins completed the comeback in the 13th minute of the second half with a play by Arnaldo Castillo.

A great play by O’Higgins, 49 minutes into the first half, was the one that moved the scoreboard thanks to Esteban Calderón. After receiving an assist from Antonio Díaz, the forward placed it to the left post and below. Impossible for the archer!

Everton striker Matías Campos had the chance to tie the game, but the post denied him in the 93rd minute of the second half.

Antonio Díaz emerged as the most outstanding player of the match. The O’Higgins defender was important by removing 4 balls and taking 4 balls out of the danger area.

Arnaldo Castillo also stood out at the El Teniente stadium. The O’Higgins attacker scored 1 goal, shot at the opponent’s goal 2 times and made 6 correct passes.

The game was interrupted due to the number of fouls committed by both teams. There were several reprimands: Felipe Villagran, Esteban Calderón, Juan Fuentes and Octavio Bianchi.

O’Higgins coach Juan Manuel Azconzábal proposed a 4-4-2 formation with Nicolás Peranic in the arch; Simon Contreras, Leonel Mosevich, Juan Ignacio Diaz and Antonio Diaz on the defensive line; Camilo Moya, Juan Fuentes, Martin Sarrafiore and Bryan Rabello in midfield; and Arnaldo Castillo and Esteban Calderon in the attack.

For their part, Francisco Meneghini’s side took to the field with a 4-5-1 scheme with Ignacio Gonzalez under the three sticks; Felipe Campos, Sebastian Pereira, Thomas Asta-Buruaga and Nicholas Baeza in defence; Felipe Villagran, Alvaro Madrid, Braian Martinez, Federico Martinez and Kevin Mendez in midfield; and Matías Campos in the forward.

Referee Gastón Philippe Noriega was in charge of supervising the game at the El Teniente stadium.

On the next date O’Higgins will face Palestino at home, while Everton will play as a visitor against U. Católica.

With this result, the host of the match reaches 9 points and is at the top of the table. For its part, the visiting team remains at 1 unit and is in twelfth place in the tournament.
