MTV Cancels ‘Catfish‘ After Nine Seasons
MTV has canceled Catfish, the long-running โreality โseries hosted by Nev Schulman, Variety first reported. The show, which premiered in 2012, will not be returning for a tenth season, though reruns โwill continue to โair on the cable channel โคowned by Paramount Skydance.
The cancellation arrivesโข amid โฃsignificant restructuring following the official closing of theโค Paramount Skydance merger โin August, a move expected โฃto trigger further content shifts and staff reductions. Catfish concluded its ninth and final season lastโข summer, after being renewed forโ its Tuesday night timeslot in โJanuary 2024 based on solid cable ratings.
Catfish followed individuals who suspected they โwere being deceived by โคsomeone they met online, with Schulmanโ and, until โคrecently, Kamie Crawford, โฃinvestigating the authenticity of thesโ digital โขrelationships. The formatโ often culminated in a meeting between โฃthe hopeful and the “catfish.” Crawford announced her departure from the seriesโ in October 2024 after six years, following the 2018 exit ofโฃ original co-host โขMax โคJoseph.
The series proved โขhighly accomplished โฃfor MTV,spawning โtwo short-lived spinoffs and numerous international editions in countries including colombia, chile,Brazil,Mexico and the U.K. A podcast, Catfish: โขThe Podcast, was also launchedโ jointly by Wondery and MTV inโข 2020, running for two seasons.
Notably,Schulman recentlyโ obtained his real estate license and announced plans to assist individuals with property transactions in New York.
