CAJAMARCA, Peru – Newmont Yanacocha has initiated a professional practices program exclusively โfor women as part of its ongoingโค mine closure process in Cajamarca, Peru. The program, openโฃ to recent โฃgraduates adn students inโค their finalโค year of study, aims toโข foster female talent within โthe mining industry and contribute to a responsible and lasting closure of the Yanacocha mine.
This initiative underscores Newmont Yanacocha’s commitment to building a positive and lastingโค legacy in the region, moving beyond simply ceasing operations. The company emphasizes that the closure phase presents an opportunity to invest in the community and create a tangible impact, highlighted by the planned construction of two state-of-the-art water treatment plants scheduledโฃ for completion in 2027.
The program targets women who have completed or are nearing completion of studies – specifically those from the 2024-II and 2025-I graduating classes – and whoโ rank within the top third of their respective academic programs. Eligible fields of study include Civil,Mechanical,Electric,Mines,and Mechanical-Electric Engineering,as well as Administration,Economics,and โAccounting. Selected participants will undertake a 12-month placement and must be โฃmedically cleared to work at โคaltitudes exceeding 3,600 โฃmeters above sea level.
