Čvančara: The national team is not a topic for me now. I need to get in shape

Mönchengladbach (from our reporter) – He revived Saturday’s duel after coming off the bench. He was full of activity, he even got into two promising opportunities in the set time. But none of them ended with a goal, and his team left the game without a point gain. “Hopefully luck will turn around in a while,” hopes Čvančara.

You had the first promising opportunity after an individual escape, but you only hit goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. Could this situation have been solved differently?

I was running towards the goal from the side, so it probably wanted to shoot up. But I was very close. The keeper reduced my angle well, so there wasn’t much more to do.

Moments later you had an equaliser, but you aimed a bit over.

I wanted to stuff it under the crossbar. But I practically couldn’t see the ball past the defending Süle, so it wasn’t easy. Unfortunately, it didn’t fall there. On the other hand, I’m coming back after a long injury, so I hope that luck will turn around soon.

You have been struggling with health problems since the beginning of the year. Was it just a bent ankle everywhere?

Yes, it was. When you came back from vacation, I immediately injured my ankle. We put him in the pile, but we probably rushed the return a little. Then I tore my ligaments in it.

Nothing bothers you now?

I’ve been out for quite a while, so I get a little relief from the coach every now and then. But I don’t feel any pain in matches, it doesn’t limit me in any way. I am 100% prepared every time.

Do you also feel good about the game?

It is starting to settle, which is very important. Even now, it was a good performance from my side, if we don’t take the result into account. I’m glad it’s on the rise. I hope that I will get something in there soon and it will get better and better.

The season is coming to an end. Do you have any other personal goals?

Mainly one, to stay healthy. And of course I would like to score a goal.

Is the sight of the Euro not appealing to you? Did the national team coach Ivan Hašek talk to you?

He called me, I was in contact with him. I am of course happy that we made it to the Euros. Advancing was our main goal and we managed to achieve it. But representation is not an issue for me at the moment. First I have to get in shape here in Mönchengladbach. Then other things can follow.

Will Saarbrücken set a trap for the next favorite?

After the duel literally fell apart more than a month ago, it will finally be decided on Tuesday who will be the last to advance to the DFB Cup semi-finals. 1. FC Saarbrücken welcomes Borussia Mönchengladbach. Kick-off is at 8.30 p.m.

The third division team from Saarland has already taken on the big FC Bayern and Eintracht Frankfurt and also eliminated Karlsruher SC. Not only in terms of sport, but also financially, progressing against Mönchengladbach would be a huge coup for Saarbrücken: each semi-finalist would receive a whopping 3.45 million euros.

President Hartmut Ostermann (72): “A return move would enable us to invest in the infrastructure, which is certainly the best way to get into the second league in the long term.”

Most recently there was a confident 2-0 win against Erzgebirge Aue. Can the Saarbrücken team carry the momentum from the league into the cup?

Borussia Mönchengladbach is still in the Bundesliga after two draws in a row. On Saturday, the “Fohlen” turned the Rhine derby against 1. FC Köln – only to concede the 3-3 draw. The mood at Borussia remains depressed before the DFB Cup evening.

Nevertheless, the mission for Tuesday is very clear. Sports director Roland Virkus (57): “As a first division team you go to a third division team: there are no excuses. You have to win the game. And that’s what the boys want too.”

Curious: Because the game was canceled in February, the semi-final opponent was already drawn before the last quarter-final. Tuesday’s winner has to play against Kaiserslautern.

Borussia Mönchengladbach – 1. FC Saarbrücken: The DFB Cup live on TV & stream

ZDF is broadcasting the game live on TV, and there is also a free live stream in the media library. The second one goes on air from 8:15 p.m., with Oliver Schmidt commentating.

Cologne vs. Gladbach Derby Ends in 3-3 Draw After Riots and Drama

The evening before there had been riots at the stadium. The night before! Cologne Ultras had come specifically to disturb Gladbach fans who were about to prepare a choreography. There were screams, running, flares. In the end, the police took 131 Cologne residents and 74 Gladbach residents into custody overnight and until after the game on Saturday. That was the martial overture to a “high-risk game”, which the next day no longer presented itself as such, but rather as a high-pulse game.

On Saturday, Cologne coach Timo Schulz gave a radio interview to WDR shortly before kick-off and said about his players’ mental preparation: “If you enter the field with a smile, then the ball will smile back.”

Ultimately, none of the players on the pitch elicited a smile from the ball in the bitter derby, but at least all of the 54,000 spectators in Borussia Park did, because it was a highly spectacular, goal- and twist-filled 98th Bundesliga derby between the Rhenish rivals. The guests took the lead twice through Faride Alidou, then Gladbach’s joker Robin Hack turned the 1:2 into a 3:2, and when you would have thought that the Gladbachers would be able to smile at the end, the 19-year-old substitute equalized Damion Downs with his first Bundesliga goal and the first Cologne joker goal of the season made the final score not entirely undeserved 3:3 (1:1).

“It was a huge spectacle for the fans,” said Cologne central defender Timo Hübers. Shortly after the game, the Cologne team wasn’t really sure what it was like for the players. “Mixed feelings,” said full-back Max Finkgräfe, the only Mönchengladbach native of all those involved. Austrian Florian Kainz found the derby “a bit chaotic on both sides,” “quite a wild game” – no wonder given that they conceded three goals each.

During the game everything remains peaceful in the stands

Cologne got off to a better start. With the help of Gladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas, who had extended his contract until 2029 this week, Cologne right winger Faride Alidou scored from a tight angle to make it 1-0 after just six and a half minutes. The Gladbachers seemed shocked and only slowly recovered. But in the 32nd minute, winger Franck Honorat hit the ball into the net after Florian Neuhaus’s pass to make it 1-1. Everything was already balanced at halftime and there was a peaceful agreement in the stands.

Alidou again managed to give Cologne the lead again, heading the ball into the goal in the 69th minute to make it 2-1. The spectacular showdown immediately followed: In the 70th minute, Robin Hack came on for Gladbach, who gave the team a 3-2 lead in the 71st and 73rd minutes. But in the 75th minute, the young Downs came into play for Cologne’s double packer Alidou and he scored in the 79th minute to make the final score 3-3. In the end, it felt like the ball smiled back a little for everyone, but most of all for the well-entertained audience.

Double goalscorer Robin Hack complains about the equalizer

The Gladbachers, who had been a little closer to victory with more and better chances, only had to be annoyed afterwards that they had failed to get ahead of Cologne to twelve points in the table – so it remains at nine. “Overall we are disappointed,” admitted Gladbach coach Gerardo Seoane, even though he found the game “very entertaining” and “very fair”. “We would have liked to give the spectators a derby win,” said Seoane, especially since the first leg in Cologne was lost 3-1.

“We wanted too much after the 3-2,” said Gladbach’s near-match winner Hack, annoyed that despite the turnaround he had achieved in the meantime, it was only enough for a draw in the end. In his words: “This pisses me off!” Gladbach fans are likely to feel similarly when they consider that their Borussia have not won a single one of the six games they have already played this season against the bottom three of the table, Cologne, Mainz and Darmstadt. There are five draws and one defeat, so five out of 18 possible points. According to Coach Soane, the lack of assertiveness at times is what needs to be worked on: “It’s still a young team.”

Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas makes a name for himself in the Bundesliga

Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach is in the lower midfield of the table. Nevertheless, one player has been able to attract attention in recent months.

Until the current season, Moritz Nicolas has only played a single Bundesliga game – that was in 2020 in the Union Berlin jersey. The goalkeeper now has 23 first division games on his resume. Nicolas has been part of Borussia Mönchengladbach’s regular staff since the third matchday.

Because captain Jonas Omlin seriously injured his shoulder at the start of the season, Gerardo Seoane had to choose between Nicolas, Jan Olschowsky and veteran goalkeeper Tobias Sippel. The decision ultimately fell on Nicolas, who guarded the Foals’ Bundesliga goal 22 times in a row.

Even though Mönchengladbach is not having a good season and is lagging behind its own expectations in twelfth place in the table, 26-year-old Nicolas is one of the positive surprises. The goalkeeper also impressed with several strong saves in the recent 1-1 draw at 1. FSV Mainz 05 and held on to the point for his team.

Even before the game, the 1.93 meter man was pleased to receive a special award. For the second time in a row he was voted player of the month by the fans. He achieved this feat in both January and February. The 26-year-old thus relegated his three teammates, Robin Hack (32 percent), Nathan Ngoumou (23 percent) and Nico Elvedi (6 percent), who were also nominated, to the other places.

One thing is clear: Moritz Nicolas has now gained a foothold in the Bundesliga and has made a name for himself. And not only that: According to “Sky” information, Nicolas is about to receive a long-term extension until 2029. His original contract would have expired in 2026. The official announcement of the deal is scheduled for this week.

Nicolas played for Rot-Weiss Essen for three years

His start at Borussia was anything but easy. In 2015 he moved from Rot-Weiss Essen’s youth team to the Bundesliga club and was awarded four times (!) in the following years – to Union Berlin, VfL Osnabrück, Viktoria Köln and Roda Kerkrade. His patience was rewarded because it wasn’t until this season that he made his breakthrough.

Before moving to Gladbach, the Gladbeck native was trained at RWE and played at Hafenstrasse for three years. In the 2014/15 season, as a 17-year-old, he was part of Essen’s regional league squad at the time and was also used in test games for the seniors. At the time, it was agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.

Bundesliga: Gladbach’s Lainer back in training after being diagnosed with cancer

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 21, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Football professional Stefan Lainer has returned to training at Borussia Mönchengladbach a good four months after his cancer diagnosis. “I’m really happy that I can concentrate fully on football again and train with the team,” the 31-year-old was quoted as saying in a club statement on Monday. The Austrian was diagnosed with lymph node cancer in July.

A recent final examination showed that the therapy carried out by Lainer had achieved the desired goal and “the lymph node cancer could be cured,” said Borussia. «We are incredibly happy and relieved that Stevie Lainer has won the battle against this disease. This victory makes us very happy,” explained Roland Virkus. Borussia’s sports director promised to give the defender “the necessary time” to “come back fully.” After completing the mandatory performance diagnostics, Gladbach’s right-back will be gradually integrated into team training starting this week. During his several months of therapy, Lainer was able to work regularly with athletic trainers on his physical fitness – accompanied by close medical monitoring. As a result, he maintained good physical condition, the club statement said.

Borussia Mönchengladbach Dominates VfL Wolfsburg with 4-0 Victory: Bundesliga Match Highlights

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 11, 2023

The professionals from Borussia Mönchengladbach were celebrated extensively by their fans. Upward trend continued – and VfL Wolfsburg’s results crisis worsened: Coach Gerardo Seoane’s team deservedly defeated Lower Saxony 4-0 (2-0) on Friday evening at the start of the eleventh matchday in the Bundesliga. For Gladbach, who also benefited from a serious mistake by Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels, it was the fourth competitive game in a row without defeat. “We did really well,” said goal scorer Rocco Reitz on the DAZN streaming service. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, has been waiting for a win in the league since the end of September. In the last five games, the VW club has only gotten one point. In front of 45,308 spectators at Borussia Park, Tomas Cvancara scored the goals for the hosts in the 16th minute, Rocco Reitz (42nd), Franck Honorat (64th) and Alassane Pléa (71st). Gladbach moved past Wolfsburg, who are now tied on points, in the table and is in ninth place with 13 points. Borussia got off to a good start and took the lead with their first chance after a remarkable attack. The strong Honorat played a one-two with Pléa, passed low from the right to the middle and Cvancara pushed the ball over the goal line. The Czech center forward came into the starting line-up for the injured Jordan Siebatcheu and thanked his coach directly for this.

Casteels doesn’t look good

The goal gave Gladbachers security. Just two minutes after the 1-0 lead, Pléa forced Casteels into a brilliant performance. The Belgian keeper, who had recently been missing due to abdominal muscle inflammation, played again for the first time in a month and barely scratched Pléa’s well-placed long-range shot out of the corner. The guests didn’t play badly by any means, but they repeatedly made unnecessary bad passes going forward. Wolfsburg often spoiled promising attacking opportunities for themselves. Gladbach remained the more dangerous team. After a through pass, Casteels prevented Gladbach’s second goal with a courageous run out against Cvancara (37th). And the goalkeeper remained the main actor – albeit involuntarily. He passed the ball exactly into Reitz’s feet without any need; the Gladbach shooting star stayed cool and extended the hosts’ lead. Published/Updated: Published/Updated: Published/Updated: Things got wilder after the page change. Wolfsburg’s Jonas Wind failed to hit the post and shot just wide. On the other side, Manu Koné and Cvancara did not take advantage of counterattack opportunities. Wolfsburg was actually the better team, but in the middle of a period of pressure from coach Niko Kovac’s team, Honorat made it 3-0. Even with the 27-year-old’s powerful shot, Casteels didn’t look good. The game was decided. Not much came from Wolfsburg anymore. The Gladbach fans celebrated loudly and were also able to celebrate a fourth goal by Pléa.
