Bayer Leverkusen’s Positive Surprise of the Season and Insights from Amine Adli on Coach Xabi Alonso

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 14, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Bayer Leverkusen has been the positive surprise of the season so far. Werkself attacker Amine Adli spoke to t-online about what makes coach Xabi Alonso special and what the young Moroccan regrets.

Three games, three wins: Bayer Leverkusen started the Bundesliga season with a maximum of nine points. On Friday evening, coach Xabi Alonso’s team will face the only other team in the German upper house that has also won all of its previous games. The Werkself face the big FC Bayern in the BayArena (from 8:30 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online).

The Munich team was reportedly also interested in a young Leverkusen star: Amine Adli. The 23-year-old decided to go to the Rhineland. And to this day I haven’t regretted it. Adli also talks to t-online about his coach Xabi Alonso, which action from the previous season still bothers him and what he thinks about the many moves of top stars to Saudi Arabia.

t-online: Mr. Adli, Bayer Leverkusen got off to a perfect start to the season with nine points from three games. The next Bundesliga game is the top game against FC Bayern in mid-September. The German record champions were apparently also interested in you. Did you make the right decision with Leverkusen?

Amine Adli: In any case. At Leverkusen I was given the chance to get a lot of playing time early on. This allowed me to improve significantly. If you want to develop, you have to play. That might not have been possible so quickly at FC Bayern, so it was a good decision for me. Especially since Leverkusen plays for the top places in the league every year. That’s why I’m just focused on my tasks here.

You were unable to take part this season due to a red card on the last matchday of last season. Are you still angry with yourself because of the assault against Dominique Heintz from Bochum?

I’m still angry and continue to think about this mistake that cost me the first Bundesliga games this season. But now I have to learn to forget that. I apologized to my team, the opponent and the referee. I also talked to the coach. He forgave me for this faux pas.

Last season, Leverkusen collected seven red cards, the most in the entire season. No team has seen so many dismissals since Mainz 05 in 2017. Does the team have a better grip on itself in the new season?

We are all people whose emotions can sometimes play tricks on the pitch. In some situations this can be too much. Then you do stupid things because you can’t control yourself right now. But the same applies here: We have to learn from it and, if possible, not make these mistakes again.

There was a strange situation with you and referee Tobias Stieler last season. In the game against FC Bayern, he showed you the yellow card twice for a swallow, but then corrected his decision with the help of video evidence and decided on a penalty for Bayer in each case. Afterwards you promised him your jersey. Did he ever receive this?

I think he got my jersey (laughs). I definitely signed one and had it sent to him.

Referees are under enormous pressure. Are the referees not valued enough?

You have an extremely difficult job, no question about it. As a player you should always be aware of this and respect it. Nevertheless, there are also emotional arguments between referees and footballers on the pitch. Sometimes you don’t really understand each other. This needs to be improved in the future. But football is on the right track.

Controversy Surrounding Leon Bailey: Aston Villa Footballer Accused of Physically Attacking Fan

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 22, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Leon Bailey is apparently in trouble. According to a report from England, the former Leverkusen player is said to have physically attacked a man. The supposed reason seems strange.

Controversy surrounding Leon Bailey: The Aston Villa football professional is said to have pushed a fan to the ground. This is reported by the English newspaper “Daily Mail”. According to a report, the man is said to have asked the offensive player for a photo with his son after Villa’s 4-0 win against Everton. He is said to have turned five years old on Sunday.

Bailey, who had previously also been active in the Bundesliga, is said not to have complied with the request and instead pushed the man to the ground. Now the police have initiated investigations against the footballer.

Leave their mark on the Bundesliga

Witnesses are said to have observed the incident. The events were also recorded by video cameras. Baily himself, who scored one goal and one assist in the previous game, did not comment. Aston Villa has also held back with statements so far.

The Jamaican international moved to England in 2021 after four years at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The transfer fee was around 32 million euros. The offensive player in the Bundesliga had previously caused a sensation.

Bailey scored 28 goals in 119 Bundesliga games for Bayer 04. He also put up 21 hits. The fast-paced dribbling of the 24-time national player in particular delighted the fans again and again. In the meantime there were even rumors that FC Bayern Munich was said to have been interested in signing the now 26-year-old.

Record Defeat for Werder Bremen in DFB Cup: Outnumbered and Leading Twice, but Eliminated in First Round

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 12, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Werder Bremen suffered a record defeat in the DFB Cup after being outnumbered for 80 minutes and leading twice. In an ultimately turbulent game at third division team Viktoria Köln, the Hanseatic League, who were decimated early on after an emergency brake from Amos Pieper (11th), lost 2:3 (1:0). Werder were eliminated in the first round for the sixth time in the past 13 years and are now the sole record holders with eleven first-round defeats as a top division club against a lower-class club.

Marvin Duksch (43′) and the top scorer Niclas Füllkrug (77′), who played as captain, gave Werder the lead twice. But Bremen’s home-grown player David Philipp, who trained with the Hanseatic League from 2014 to 2020, equalized twice (72nd/79th). Donny Bogicevic really made sure of the second second round entry of the Cologne team, who are leaders after the 1st matchday of the 3rd division. After his goal in the fourth minute of added time, the game did not start again.

Need to speak: Bremen’s players after the game in dialogue with the fans

BVB lacklusterly successful

With a lackluster performance, Borussia Dortmund easily solved the first mandatory task of the new football season and reached the 2nd round of the DFB Cup. The German runners-up easily prevailed 6-1 (3-1) at the Southwest regional league team TSV Schott Mainz on Saturday, but could hardly inspire with the summer kick-off.

In front of 30,312 spectators, Sébastien Haller (22nd and 35th minute), Julian Brandt (24th), Marcel Sabitzer (57th), Donyell Malen (79th) and Youssoufa Moukoko (85th) scored the goals for the clearly superior team by coach Edin Terzic. Nils Gans (34th) scored the acclaimed consolation goal for the blatant outsider.

BVB had to do without the injured new signing Felix Nmecha, and the injured Karim Adeyemi was also absent in Mainz. Terzic was able to build on the two summer additions Rami Bensebaini and Sabitzer.

St. Pauli missed higher victory

FC St. Pauli has also reached the second round. The second division team from Hamburg won 5-0 (1-0) at fifth division team Atlas Delmenhorst on Saturday. However, the Kiez-Club missed many chances to score with the Lower Saxony club.

Eric Smith (24th minute) scored a free kick from almost 20 meters for the guests to take the lead. An unfortunate own goal by Atlas goalkeeper Damian Schobert (59th) stopped the upper division’s hesitant efforts. Elias Saad (68th) and Marcel Hartel (70th) increased the penalty for the Hanseatic League. Central defender Kerem Sari received yellow-red for the previous foul. Oladapo Afolayan (88th) made the final score.

St. Pauli dominated the game without much surprise, but Hamburg was careless with their chances. At the beginning of the second half, the hosts got better and achieved unchallenged success.

Leverkusen without any trouble

Bayer Leverkusen also made it through to the second round without much trouble. The Bundesliga team won in front of 11,035 spectators 8-0 (3-0) at Hamburg regional league team FC Teutonia 05 Ottensen. The goals for the team coached by Xabi Alonso were scored by Edmond Tapsoba (16th minute), Victor Boniface (42nd), Florian Wirtz (45th + 1), Amine Adli (59th, penalty kick), Jeremie Frimpong (67th), Adam Hlozek (74′, 90′) and Jonas Hofmann (81′).

Kiel celebrates late

With the third competitive win in a row, Holstein Kiel has reached the next round of the DFB Cup. The second division runners-up won 2-0 (0-0) at FC Gütersloh, who have been promoted to the regional league on Saturday. In front of 5000 spectators in the Heidewald stadium, substitute Holmbert Aron Fridjonsson secured a brace (72./90.+3) for the guests, who struggled against the twelfth-placed in the Regionalliga West for a long time.

The hosts came up with some good scenes through their dangerous striker Markus Esko, who later had to be replaced injured, and even missed a penalty kick by Nico Buckmaier in the 41st minute. Lewis Holtby fouled Esko in the penalty area. Kiel only got into the game well later and had good scoring chances through Holtby and Steven Skrzybski. But only the substitute Icelander Fridjonsson managed to score two goals in the final phase for the 2021 cup semi-finalists.

Uzun stayed hungry

17-year-old top talent Can Uzun shot 1. FC Nürnberg to victory. The Turkish offensive player scored three goals in the sovereign 9: 1 (6: 0) of the second division at Bremen division club FC Oberneuland and prepared another goal for the team of coach Christian Fiel. Uzun was twice successful for the Franconians in the 2-2 win against Hannover 96 in the 2nd Bundesliga last weekend.

Sustainable muscle building

The four-time DFB Cup winner showed his superiority from the start against the overwhelmed fifth division team. Uzun provided the 2-0 lead with two early goals (10th minute/14th). Daichi Hayashi (15th), Ahmet Gürleyen (19th) and Taylan Duman (24th/29th, penalty kick) increased the lead to 6-0 before the break.

Nuremberg replaced substitute goalkeeper Carl Klaus in the second half. Keeper Christian Mathenia only had one ball contact in the first 45 minutes. The Fiel team took it much easier in the second half and was able to increase through Uzun with his third goal (67th) and former Werder professional Benjamin Goller (71st). Oberneuland now put up a little more resistance and was rewarded by Bakary Lambers’ 8-1 lead (89′). Christoph Daferner (90′) scored to make it 9-1.

The Rise of Frank Schmidt and 1. FC Heidenheim: From the Tranquil Countryside to the Bundesliga

The Rise of Frank Schmidt and 1. FC Heidenheim: From the Tranquil Countryside to the Bundesliga

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 3, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Good morning, dear reader,

do you know Frank Schmidt? The stocky 49-year-old is the coach of the 1. FC Heidenheim football club. He does his job so reliably, consistently and, last but not least, successfully that he has been looking after the team from the town of 50,000 in the tranquil country side for 16 years. Under his leadership, the Heidenheimers have accomplished a feat this year: promotion to the Bundesliga. Next season team captain Patrick Mainka, clearer Norman Theuerkauf and left wing Jan-Niklas Beste will compete with the highly paid superstars from FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.

Schmidt has long been known nationwide in German football as a likeable and authentic unicum. And even if the rise of the Heidenheimers is often glorified as a miracle of biblical proportions, as if a ragged pub elf with a makeshift ball had played the million-dollar clubs of the 2nd Bundesliga in front of them (in truth, numerous companies from the region support a highly professionally managed club ), it is a charming anecdote. The club maintains its own image: honest and real – with Schmidt as a modest face.

And yet the otherwise so honest, born Heidenheimer could not resist a dig a few days ago: “Unfortunately, today wasn’t the test we were hoping for”, said the coach on Saturday after the game against Saudi Arabia’s al-Ahli. Because not only was the continuation of the game, which was scheduled for twice 60 minutes, made impossible after almost an hour and a half due to a full-blown downpour in the Tyrolean training camp – the class of the guests from the Orient was apparently more like a mirage than a footballing revelation. “The opponent’s quality wasn’t what we needed as a challenge in the training camp,” explained Schmidt.

The ball artists from the Brenz were jogged to a comfortable 6:2 after three quarters of the season – mind you: against a team with the 2021 world goalkeeper Édouard Mendy and the Brazilian international striker Roberto Firmino, who dared to travel to Saudi Arabia this summer . And with the German coach Matthias Jaissle, who threw away his quite successful work at the can-alimented soccer club from Salzburg in a cloak-and-dagger operation shortly before the start of the season for a highly paid job in sporting nothing. Al-Ahli signed Riyad Mahrez from Manchester City for 35 million euros just a few days ago, and treated himself to Allan Saint-Maximin from Newcastle United for another 27.2 million. The club has already invested over 80 million this summer. For comparison: Bayern and Dortmund come to 99 million – together.

Not a day in world football goes by without renewed speculation about a well-known player moving to Saudi Arabia. The reality is: It will stay that way – and should cause concern. Europe’s top clubs face a threat that will only increase.

Because the country with one of the highest gross domestic products in the world will not only have a lasting impact on football, but on all sports. “I’m just observing the situation,” said Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel recently on the sidelines of the German record champions’ trip to Asia. The 49-year-old, a shrewd analyzer of world football, continued: “It’s just a very new situation, maybe a bit similar to the situation when China started their league. There was a similar gold rush there and yes you do Experiences.” Saudi Arabia is “the next league trying to get more popular and famous, trying to build the brand.”

Nouveau riche clubs or entire leagues and the bizarre stories that went with it actually happened more frequently over the years, whether in China, Russia or Uzbekistan. But Saudi Arabia’s engagement has reached another dimension.

According to reports, the kingdom wants to spend almost 20 billion euros on football alone by 2030, Commitment to other sports is also being ramped up: the Saudi Arabian Formula 1 Grand Prix has been in existence since 2021, star players in the Gulf have been lured into a new league with astronomical prize money, and the country wants to become more present in boxing and handball. This source of money will not suddenly dry up, the interest in a long-term establishment is well-founded. “They convince a lot of quality players and even coaches,” noted Tuchel. “So the situation is completely new and it’s still a bit early for me to have a clear opinion. I’m an observer, a surprised observer.”

A very big goal – in addition to the sports washing of a fierce dictatorship, which is euphemistic for “image cultivation” – is the organization of the Olympic Games or, even bigger, a football World Cup. A joint application with Greece and Egypt for the 2030 tournament recently seemed to burst. Anyone who knows Fifa and its windy presidents, who had no fear of contact with morally questionable hosts when the World Cup was awarded to Russia or Qatar, will not be surprised if Gianni Infantino is in the best of spirits in the stands in a country that unwelcome critics like to have dismembered alive.

The recent move from Fabinho’s Liverpool team-mate Jordan Henderson to al-Ettifaq sparked particularly heated discussions – the longtime captain of the “Reds” had always been an exemplary advocate for LGBTQ rights, which are trampled on in the most brutal way in Saudi Arabia.

Tottenham Close to Signing Brentford Goalkeeper David Raya as Hugo Lloris’ Replacement

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com June 12, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The goalkeeper will be the replacement for Hugo Lloris who leaves the club

Tottenham are close to agreeing personal terms with Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, who has also been targeted by Manchester United. According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are close to an agreement with Raya, although a price has not yet been agreed with Brentford, who asks for 40 million pounds for the 27-year-old goalkeeper. United seemed interested in signing Raya to compete with David de Gea, but now it seems that he will be left out of the bidding. Brentford have prepared for Raya’s departure by signing Mark Flekken from Freiburg.

Hugo Lloris has announced that he wants to leave Tottenham this summer, after 11 years at the club, and are looking for a new goalkeeper to play under recently appointed manager, Ange Postecoglou. Raya has excelled at Brentford, playing every minute of the 2022/23 Premier League season and keeping 12 goals to zero.
