The public prosecutor of Saint-Étienne points to “serious attacks committed on public buildings, symbols of the Republic” Jean-Christophe Marmara / Le Figaro

Four young men will be tried for the fire at the town hall of Rive-de-Gier, forty kilometers from Lyon, and the attempted intrusion into the adjoining police station during the riots at the beginning of the summer.

Le Figaro Lyon

During their hearings, they highlighted “the group effect”, as the trigger for their series of degradations. Three young adults were indicted on Friday September 15 for the fire at the town hall of Rive-de-Gier (Loire) and the damage to the adjoining police station, which they had tried to enter during the night of the riot from June 30 to July 1, indicated the Saint-Étienne public prosecutor’s office on Tuesday. Originally from this town, located southwest of Lyon, they will be judged at the end of the month for damage or deterioration of the property of others by means dangerous to people.

Unknown to the justice system until the beginning of the summer, the young people face up to 10 years in prison, while the public prosecutor, David Charmatz, highlights the significant mobilization of the police forces concerning “serious attacks committed on public buildings, symbols of the Republic“. A minor, the fourth accused was entrusted to the Judicial Protection of Youth, awaiting a hearing before the children’s court on November 29.

This evening of June 30, while France is shaken by riots after the death of Nahel, killed by a police officer in Nanterre, the small group found themselves in front of the town hall after a rally organized on Snapchat. A group of thugs, not all of whom could be identified, forced a door to the town hall and broke into the premises. The individuals present then set fire to trash cans, starting a fire, specifies the Saint-Étienne public prosecutor’s office.

At the same time, they attempted to enter the neighboring municipal police premises. The entrance was damaged and also partly set on fire, adds the public prosecutor. “Beyond the reactions aroused then, these abuses caused major financial damage for the municipality and blocked, then greatly complicated the functioning of the municipal public service to the detriment of its citizens.», insists David Charmatz. But over the following days, the suspects could not be found, apart from one who was arrested the next day for other damage. Aged 18, he was sentenced on July 5 to 10 months in prison under an electronic bracelet for his participation in a group formed to commit violence against people or damage.

During the investigation into these facts, the use of the suspect’s cell phone made it possible to establish his presence at the scene of the damage committed the day before, at the town hall. During the investigation, he admitted his participation in this damage. During his hearing on September 13, he also implicated his three accomplices, two of whom admitted the facts. All those involved were placed under judicial supervision with a ban on making contact or leaving their home between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. while awaiting their judgment.

The episode which affects the east of France will be particularly long in the Rhône with temperatures that can reach up to 38°C. Ain, Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie are also concerned.

Le Figaro Lyon

35°C, 36°C and even up to 38°C in the middle of next week, the next ten days promise to be particularly hot in Lyon. A mercury which will fall very little during the night and which will make the capital of Gaul the epicenter of the heat wave in France. Since August 11, Lyon has been successively placed in yellow vigilance then orange heat wave. “Lyon will certainly be the place where this episode will be the most lasting», says Cyril Bonnefoy, meteorologist at The weather channel*.

A late heat wave which does not surprise the latter: “In general, heat waves occur between July 15 and August 15. But in the logic of what the IPCC predicted , global warming tends to create a shift from summer to September. However, we have already experienced late heat waves in the past in 1961, 2001, 2009 or even 2012».

Differences of 5 to 6 degrees

Heat wave episodesamplified by urban heat islands“, continues the meteorologist. “In Lyon, the Bron station located in the aerodrome is the reference. Often, we find that there are several degrees of difference between this one and the station of the park of La Tête d’Or and even more in comparison to the hypercentre. The deviation can be five to six degrees. This morning we recorded 17°C in the Lyon Bron station, but most people who live in the city center had a minimum of 22°C“. Beware therefore of certain temperatures announced by the weather services which can differ quite significantly for the inhabitants of the most urban areas.

During these periods of heat waves, it is recommended to drink water several times a day, to eat normally, to wet the body several times a day using an atomizer, a washcloth or taking lukewarm showers or baths, not to go out during the hottest hours (11 a.m. to 9 p.m.), to wear a hat and light clothing, to go, as far as possible, to a cool or air-conditioned place two to three hours a day, to limit physical and sports activities and to close the shutters, curtains and windows during the day and then ventilate at night.

The Miss France Committees of Rhône-Alpes Departments Refuse to Pay High Regional License

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 10, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The Miss France committees of several departments of Rhône-Alpes refuse to pay the license requested at the regional level, considering it much too high.

Le Figaro Lyon

What is happening in the world of Misses in Rhône-Alpes. After Isère in early July, the Miss Rhône, Loire and Drôme Vallée du Rhône committees announced in early August in a joint press release their disaffiliation from the regional committee. “We believe that our associations, partly financed by local or departmental subsidies, are not intended to remunerate a regional committee, a person or a company.“said the directors of the three resigning departments.

Since last year, the Miss France committee asked the regional structures to charge licenses to the departmental sections. A way to coordinate and unify the Miss France network so that at each level the contest charter is respected. But the sum requested by the regional committee quickly sparked tensions with the departments in the region. “We are asked for 500 euros, against zero so far. What we asked in return was to know what the money was going to be used for. Not to have our nose in the accounts of the regional committee but just because it’s a certain amount and we wanted to understand», entrusts to the Figaro Mam’ Issabré, resigning president of the Miss Rhône committee.

Misses and volunteers

In fact, if the Miss France committee has asked its regions to set up a licensing system, no amount has been specified, assures Mélanie Desbiolles, president of the Loire committee: “We are asked for five times more than what was recommended by the national committee. And when we ask why, we are not told. Where does the other 400 euros go? We agree to pay for this license, but at its fair price.“Because beyond the excess of the national ceremony organized each end of the year in prime time on TF1, the world of Miss would not exist without the associations and volunteers installed in all French departments and territories. “We work hard and we give a lot of time to do nice things, find partners, grants. Our work is also praised by the Miss France committee. But we must not forget that the Misses have their source in our cities“, continues Mélanie Desbiolles.

For its part, the Rhône-Alpes committee expressed “of his sadness“, following the announcement of the departure of the four departmental committees. “Everyone is responsible for their choices and we take note of the desire of these delegations to no longer be affiliated with the Miss France brand.“, he wrote in a press release. Contacted several times, its president Patricia Recanati, did not respond to our requests. Questioned by The Liberated Dauphineshe justified the choice to professionalize the Miss France network without dwelling on the amount claimed and its justification: “Cycling is the same, it’s a sport that has become more professional and structured… We are bound by legal obligations, such as in terms of employment contracts.“And to add:”Miss France is a registered trademark, with an official logo. At the regional committee, we must monitor compliance with the rules around the brand. We have a role of guarantor in the region.»

No Miss in 2024?

The Misses elected in each department since the start of 2023 will meet on September 23 in La Roche-sur-Foron (Haute-Savoie) to elect the new Miss Rhône-Alpes. Candidates from the Rhône, Loire and Drôme will be present, accompanied by the current committees of their departments. “We will accompany the girls of this year until the end even if we are no longer affiliated. It would be the best revenge for us if our candidate were Miss Rhône-Alpes“says Mam ‘Issabré. As for 2024, the vagueness remains? “Logically, there should be no candidates from these committees. But it is assumed that others will be recreated. But without us“. In the Loire, Mélanie Desbiolles assures that she does not wantto compete with Miss France” with whom “there is no problem anyway“, she insists.

Meetings of the Rhône-Alpes committee should take place soon to “decide how to organize the territories (resigned, Editor’s note) with the help of new teams to elect the future Miss 2024».

Monthly Barometer: Small Improvement in Prices in France, Contrasting Changes in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 3, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The monthly barometer shows a small improvement in prices in France over 3 months, in a context of a sharp drop in transactions. In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, prices are changing in contrasting ways.

LPI announced its monthly barometer, sponsored by iad. The price per m² signed is €3,375 in France. Over three months, the price per m² increased by 0.7%. The negotiation margin is 6.6% in the former. It should be noted, however, that the volume of transactions fell by 21.5% on a rolling quarterly basis.

Embellishment of spring

LPI thus reports a spring upturn in the prices of existing homes, with an inversion of the price curve for existing homes. Over the last three months, in addition to the increase in signed prices, posted prices have increased by 1.5%. The observatory stresses, however, that such an upturn is usual at this time of year. But for all that, it comes after long months of a decline that seemed uninterrupted, from October 2022 to April 2023. The pace of the rise in prices measured at rolling annual levels is also slowing down rapidly, with an increase of 1.7%. at the end of June, against +4.6% at the start of the year.

Recent price increases are the slowest on the apartment market where demand is hampered by down payment requirements, given the price levels in major cities. The progression reached only 0.1% during the last three months. Also, the pace of price increases measured at rolling annual levels is still slowing down, with an increase of 0.9% at the end of June, against +3.9% in January. It should be noted, however, that while the downward trend is strengthening in Ile-de-France, tensions persist outside the said region. And posted prices increased by 1.4% in a rolling quarter, after having fallen for many months.

Isère Factory Expansion Raises Concerns About Water Consumption and Environmental Impact

water war

Water, an essential and threatened resourcedossier

The extension of the Isère factory of the industrialist STMicroelectronics, made possible by colossal funding from the State, has raised the fears of environmentalists and local elected officials. The site is a very large consumer of water, which had not been anticipated.

It is a valley with a fertile economy, where semiconductors and other electronic chips grow. But for that you need water, lots of water. However, in Grésivaudan too, there are fewer than before the time of climate change, which worries the population. On the other hand, the billions rain. On Monday, the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, granted 2.9 billion euros in public funding to the new STMicroelectronics (ST) factory in Crolles (Isère), a colossal project at 7.5 billion.

The industrial site, whose production capacity is to double, continues to expand, under the questioning eyes of environmentalists. Two new extensions of the huge clean rooms have just been put into service by the electronic chip manufacturer, associated with the Emirati GobalFoundries (GF). Another comes out of the ground. The infernal pace symbolizes the strategic urgency to supply European industry with components.

The court did retain the threat by weapon, loaded or not, of the diamond dealer. This Smith & Wesson with its impressive caliber 44, in front of which the jeweler robbed at his home in Collonges-au-Mont-d’Or had seen death in the face, the night of December 21, 2020. The three individuals who had violently molested him in order to be given precious stones and cash were sentenced by the Rhône Assize Court on Friday. They received 5, 10 and 11 years of criminal imprisonment. Sentences lower than the requisitions of the public prosecutor, fixed between 10 and 15 years.

This content is not accessible.

Aged around 30, the three convicts had admitted the facts as soon as the hearing opened, but tried to minimize their role, assuring in passing that the weapon was not loaded, contrary to the declarations of the victim. The aggravating circumstance of an organized gang was ultimately not retained, the court not being able to determine with certainty the role of each. Placed in pre-trial detention during the investigation, they returned to prison in Corbas, Saint-Étienne and Grenoble. All three had been quickly arrested following the facts, including two immediately, after a chase on the quays of Saône which had ended in a spectacular accident in the climb of Choulans, aboard the Audi of the jeweler and d a Clio stolen in Switzerland a few weeks earlier.

Tracked by the PJ

The team was also followed by investigators from the judicial police who had placed GPS trackers and sound instruments on some of their vehicles. Especially following another violent home-jacking in Switzerland. Switzerland, where two of the three convicts tried to go earlier in the day on December 21, before crashing the vehicle loaned by a friend they were driving. After a forced return to Lyon, they had decided to go to the jeweler whose one of the three individuals – the one who received the heaviest sentence – had had the address for several years.

Convinced that the diamond dealer had a safe at his home with precious stones and money, they had multiplied the violence against him for 30 minutes to get the fantasized loot back. In the end, they only left with a few tens of euros, a laptop and some clothes.
