1 out of 4 export vehicles eco-friendly car… 2 million units recovered in the first half of 4 years after Corona

In the first half of this year, automobile exports increased 46.6% year-on-year to $35.7 billion, breaking a record high. This is more than $10 billion in exports ($25.2 billion) in the first half of 2014, the previous record.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 17th the ‘June 2023 Automotive Industry Trends’ containing these contents. The combined exports of automobiles and parts in the first half of the year were $47.3 billion. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said, “Expectations are rising that the exports of the automobile industry (cars and parts) will achieve 80 billion dollars this year.”

Exports of eco-friendly vehicles, such as electric, plug-in hybrid, hydrogen, and hybrid vehicles, were $12.4 billion in the first half, up 70.4% from the same period last year. The number of eco-friendly cars exported was 385,000 units, and one out of four exported vehicles was an eco-friendly car. Among eco-friendly vehicles, electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for the largest share with 182,000 units (47.4%) exported. This was followed by 163,724 hybrids (42.6%), 38,465 plug-in hybrids (10%), and 236 hydrogen cars (0.06%).

Production in the first half of this year was 2.198 million units, up 23.5% from the same period last year. This is due to the normalization of supply of parts such as semiconductors for vehicles. The Ministry of Industry said that it was the first time in four years since 2019, before the corona, that the production volume in the first half of the year recovered to 2 million units.

In the first half of the year, 894,000 vehicles were sold in the domestic market. This is an increase of 10.7% compared to the same period last year. Among them, domestic cars sold 759,000 units, up 8.7%, but imported cars sold 134,000 units, down 3.1%. In the first half of this year, domestic eco-friendly car sales amounted to 264,000 units, accounting for 30% of total sales. In particular, hybrid cars sold 177,000 units (66.9%), accounting for the highest share in the domestic eco-friendly car market.

Meanwhile, last month’s automobile exports increased by 58.3 percent to $6.229 billion. Car exports exceeded $6 billion for four consecutive months from last March to last month after recording $6.5 billion. Eco-friendly vehicle exports last month were $2.29 billion, showing a record growth of 98.4% compared to the same month last year.

Eco-friendly vehicle exports have maintained the $2 billion mark for five consecutive months since recording $2.02 billion last February. Last month, automobile production was tallied at 370,284 units, up 12.8% from the same month last year, as supply chain disruptions in the domestic, North American and European markets were resolved.

New York City Files Lawsuit Against Hyundai and Kia Over Spate of Car Thefts

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com June 12, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

It’s been a month since South Korea’s Hyundai and Kia settled for about $200 million to settle a class action lawsuit in the United States sparked by a surge in car thefts.

The settlement, which the companies said covered about nine million 2011-2022 Hyundai and Kia vehicles, included cash compensation to customers who suffered theft-related loss or damage not covered by insurance, as well as reimbursement of insurance deductibles, among others.

But despite the effort, thieves continue to take the vehicles at an alarming rate.

New York City on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, filed a lawsuit against Hyundai and Kia, beset by a spate of car thefts due to a flaw that made some car models highly susceptible to theft.

In the legal action, New York blamed automakers for failing to install anti-theft devices called immobilizers in most of their cars between 2011 and 2022, making them “virtually unique” in the industry, already grounded in reality with new technologies.

Local authorities said this has “opened the floodgates to car theft, crime, reckless driving and public harm”, a situation exacerbated by viral Tik Tok videos showing people stealing cars that lack immobilizers.

“Explosion of robberies in 2023”

Engine immobilizers have been a standard feature on most cars since the 1990s, preventing the engine from starting unless the key is present. “Hyundai and Kia’s business decisions to cut costs, and therefore increase profits, by forgoing common anti-theft technology, have resulted in an epidemic of theft,” the lawsuit states.

The New York City Police Department reported that about 287 Kias were stolen last year, compared to about 119 in 2021; the number is supplemented by 415 Hyundais reported stolen in 2022, up from 232 the year before.

So far from 2023 through April, an estimated 977 Hyundai and Kia vehicles have been reported stolen, nearly seven times the 148 such thefts in the same months last year.

In a statement, Hyundai said it is committed to ensuring the quality and integrity of its products. “A subset of vehicles … are not equipped with ignition buttons or immobilization anti-theft devices,” he acknowledged, though he added that their systems are compliant.

With this lawsuit, the most populous city in the United States joined others that did the same, such as Baltimore, Cleveland, Milwaukee, San Diego and Seattle.

Iran will export 45,000 cars to Russia under a three-year contract. IRNA’s photo

TEHERAN – Iran’s second largest automaker, SAIPA, has signed a contract to export three of its sedan models to Russia and Belarus. This emphasizes that Iran does not care about the sanctions imposed by the West on Russia.

As reported by the IRNA office, Friday (5/5/2023), the cars sent to Russia were the Shahin, Quik and Saina models. Iran will export 45,000 cars to the two countries under a three-year contract.

The contract is worth 450 million euros ($49.78 million), according to IRNA.

In November last year, Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Russia on car exports. The MoU is estimated to be worth US$300 million, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

As reported by Xinhua News, Iran also exports cars to Venezuela, Iraq, Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Production of sedan cars in Iran has increased by about 20 percent in recent years. Iran is a ‘rich’ country through various industrial sectors.

Automotive is the third most active in the country after oil and gas. Iran is directly adjacent to Iraq.

According to Iran Khodro Company (IKCO), this business group increased its market share to 54 percent after allocating a seven percent increase.

Verdict: Which insurance pays for jacking damage?

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com March 10, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Wipperfürth Changing a tire does not fall within the sphere of car use. This is shown by a judgment (Az.: 9 C 145/22) by the Wipperfürth District Court, to which the ADAC refers.

In this case, a man wanted to change the wheels of his car. He used a jack, but improperly. The device slipped off and damaged his father’s car, which was parked next to his.

Who pays for 1400 euros body damage?

There was damage of around 1400 euros. The private liability insurance of the son should step in for this. However, the latter refused, arguing that the damage had occurred in connection with the use of the car: the car was supposed to be repaired by changing the wheels. Therefore, the motor vehicle liability insurance is responsible for the regulation.

The matter went to court, where private liability was ordered to pay. Unlike the defendant insurance company, the chamber could not see any connection between the tire change and the use of the car.

Rather, the damage was caused solely by the use of the jack. So it didn’t matter that the campaign was intended to get the car ready for use again.
