WSG Tirol Secures Vital Win Against Blau-Weiß Linz: Mahamadou Diarra Shines

WSG Tirol took a big step towards staying in the league in round 26 of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. With the 2-1 home win against FC Blau-Weiß Linz (match report >>>), the lead over the relegation zone was extended to eight points.

The Upper Austrians are five points ahead of bottom team Austria Lustenau, who had to admit defeat in the Ländle derby against SCR Altach (match report >>>).

“Eight points is a lot, especially in the qualifying group, but nothing has been won yet. We have to keep going in the same way. Anything can happen,” warned WSG defender Kofi Schulz on “Sky” after the game.

There are still six rounds left to play, so 18 points can still be awarded. The tension in the relegation battle is far from over.

Silberberger: “The boy can be worth his weight in gold for us”

At the WSG, a striker, Mahamadou Diarra, may be coming into his own at just the right time. The Malian, who was the first African to move directly to Wattens last summer, scored twice against the Upper Austrians – with a header from a corner in the fourth minute and a remarkable one at the start of the second half with a heel (50′). The 20-year-old scored all four of his Bundesliga goals against the promoted team.

“Apparently Blau-Weiß Linz suits him quite well,” said WSG coach Thomas Silberberger after the game. “I predicted it to him today. He has an extreme ability to breathe. He did an outstanding job in the standard situation. And in the 2-0 game he did a great job of sticking his foot out. The boy can be worth his weight in gold for us.”

In general, Silberberger was and is always confident in his offensive abilities. “We already have a unique selling point in the qualifying group because we play with two center strikers. No other team does that,” the coach wanted to emphasize not only Diarra’s qualities but also those of Nik Prelec. “The two of them harmonize better and better and are always dangerous.”

Linz’s goal made the game even more exciting

In addition to a strong offense, you also need at least an equally good defense to be successful. The home team didn’t allow anything for a long time before Linz made it 1-2 at the start of the final phase with a remarkable goal from Kristijan Dobras (75′). The goal gave the guests a boost, the Tyroleans seemed unsettled. In the end, from the WSG’s point of view, the result was achieved over time.

Why did it get exciting again at the end? “The concentration has dropped a bit. Physically you’ve also noticed that the last few games have cost a lot mentally and physically. We now have to slow down a bit, regenerate and then the whole thing will get better,” explained Kofi Schulz.

Captain Valentino Müller tried to see the positive side. “Unfortunately it got exciting again, but in the end I don’t care because the victory is all that counts.”

The Tyroleans are now unbeaten for four games in a row (two wins, two draws). “We played against the three other teams who are in the relegation battle (Lustenau, Altach, BW Linz, note.), scored seven points. Nobody would have thought we could do that. Now we’re eight points ahead,” Silberberger calculated. “We definitely can’t rest. Now we have the Austria-Vienna double. A lot can happen in the other games, so it will be tight again.”

Scheiblehner: “The first half wasn’t ready for the Bundesliga”

So nothing is lost for Blau-Weiß Linz, but nothing is gained either. The Upper Austrians are five points ahead of last place after matchday 26.

Head coach Gerald Scheiblehner saw two faces of his team on Saturday evening. “The first half really wasn’t ready for the Bundesliga. After the 2-0 (for the WSG, note.) we changed and did it well. With luck we can play a draw here. Ultimately, the WSG deserved the victory over 90 minutes.”

Why did you only get going after Dobras’ goal in the 75th minute? “It has to do with self-confidence. When you score, you realize that it’s possible,” said Scheiblehner and spoke about Mehmet Ibrahimi’s best chance to equalize. Shortly before the end, the German finished from around eleven meters, but was denied by WSG keeper Adam Stejskal, who narrowed the angle well.

“We did well and had a 100 percent chance of scoring through Ibrahimi. But a good half is simply not enough to score points. We have to improve clearly and quickly, otherwise we won’t win many games,” said Scheiblehner.

Blue and white has nothing to give away

Austria Lustenau’s derby defeat is of course a benefit for the Upper Austrians, “but I would prefer that we win our games. Then I don’t care what Lustenau or the others do. Of course it would have been a huge chance today, but now we have, I think there are still enough games in which we can win,” said Stefan Feier in an interview after the game.

“We simply have nothing to give away. We have to learn from it and perform better against Altach,” summed up Scheiblehner and was already looking ahead to the tasks ahead.

Unexpected Draw: Klagenfurt and Hartberg Tie 2-2 in Bundesliga Matchday 25 with Last-Minute Goal

On the 25th matchday of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, Klagenfurt and Hartberg drew 2-2, with two different faces.

The initial phase is relatively even – without any longer periods of possession, it is the hosts who have the first chances. Top scorer Sinan Karweina cannot put the hosts in the lead despite two great chances.

Instead, Dominik Prokop is fouled in the penalty area. Hartberg top scorer Maximilian Entrup confidently converted the foul penalty (25th).

However, the answer from the home team is not long in coming. A free kick falls at the feet of Kosmas Gkezos, who hits the ball from a good five meters and hits the crossbar (27th).

In an exciting first half, Hartberg brings the final point. Jürgen Heil initially fails because of the outstanding Menzel – Dominik Prokop pokes the second ball over the line (46th).

Last action brings decision!

In the second half, a lot of pace is lost and the teams take significantly less risk. Only in the final phase does the game become more exciting again.

The hosts have to open up at the back and try everything again to equalize. One ball after the other flutters into the Hartberger penalty area – and then in the final moves of the game the lucky punch!

After a free kick cross, Hartberg goalkeeper Sallinger tried to punch the ball away, but unfortunately only hit the head of a Klagenfurt player. Joker Irving takes the penalty and scores the equalizer with the last action of the game (90+9.)!

Bundesliga Sentences SK Rapid to Two-Point Deduction for Misconduct: Bad News for Hütteldorfers!

Bad news for SK Rapid!

As the Bundesliga announced on Tuesday, Senate 1 has sentenced the Hütteldorfers to a two-point deduction for the coming season, after which the Hütteldorfers will start the 2024/25 season with a mortgage of two points.

The Bundesliga is reacting to the sometimes serious misconduct of the Hütteldorfer fans and those responsible, which include the illegal lighting of pyrotechnics, violations of security at games and the use of discriminatory fan chants, and is therefore sanctioning Rapid with two minus points.

Austria was also fined

The protest committee thereby revokes the conditional deduction of one point from the end of February and announces a further unconditional deduction of one point.

In addition, the Criminal Senate slapped the Viennese with a fine of 60,000 euros, of which 20,000 euros were due to a structural change to a stadium gate.

The SK Rapid announced a protest with the announcement that it wanted to take further legal action. Until further notice, they do not want to make any further comment on this decision.

City rival Austria Vienna is also sentenced to a fine of 60,000 euros for illegal use of pyrotechnic material. The “Veilchen” had to start last season with three minus points due to a license violation. Now the people of Hütteldorf are threatened with a similar fate.

No new proceedings against Hedl and Grüll

In addition, Senate 1 also dealt with a newly surfaced video on Tuesday that shows, among others, goalkeeper Niklas Hedl and offensive player Marco Grüll loudly insulting the Favoriten district, home of city rivals Austria, with chants in the VIP club.

“The Senate has assessed the contents of the video according to the fact that the players Niklas Hedl, Marco Grüll and Thorsten Schick visible in the video are offenses that have already been admitted and were therefore dealt with and convicted in a trial that has taken place. This is against the players did not open new proceedings,” it said.

However, proceedings will probably be opened against assistant coach Daniel Seper. “He could not be seen on any of the videos known to date, so the facts of his case could not be assessed to date,” the league explained.

– Classified as a third major incident.
The deduction of one point, which was conditionally reviewed by the protest committee on February 29, 2024, is revoked and a further unconditional deduction of one point is announced. The deduction of a total of two points applies to the 2024/25 season.

Sturm Graz vs SK Rapid: Round 19 Admiral Bundesliga Match Preview and Results

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com February 18, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

At the end of round 19 of the Admiral Bundesliga, Sturm Graz welcomes SK Rapid (from 5:00 p.m. in the LIVE ticker <<<).

The Graz team are second in the league and are currently the only real pursuers of Salzburg. With only two points behind the “Bulls”, anything still seems possible in the championship.

In the top game last week against the league leaders from Salzburg, the draw was 1-1 after Graz had been behind. This is also why the draw felt more like a victory for the Styrians.

The Hütteldorfers started the spring well – in addition to the SKN St. Pölten in the cup, they also defeated the WAC away on the last matchday (2-0).

LASK Transfer News: Moussa Kone Loaned to DAC Dunajska Streda in Slovakia until 2024

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com February 15, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

LASK is sending Moussa Kone to Slovakia on loan.

The 27-year-old attacker will join DAC Dunajska Streda until June 2024. His contract with the athletes runs until 2027.

Kone moved to LASK from the then French second division club Nimes Olympique last summer. In the black and white jersey, the Senegalese player played a total of 15 competitive games, five of them from the start, and contributed two goals. He scored both in the first round duel in the ÖFB Cup in a 6-0 win against SC Röthis.

From now on, Kone is hunting for goals for the current sixth-place team in the top Slovakian league.

“We remain completely convinced of Moussa Kone and his qualities. Nevertheless, it was important for him in the current phase to find a club where he can get more match practice and gain self-confidence in the next few months. We wish him that can fully exploit its potential there,” says Managing Director Sport Radovan Vujanovic.

The Latest on Marco Grüll’s Transfer: Union Berlin, Mainz 05, and SK Rapid Negotiations

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com January 19, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

“It is very unlikely that anything will happen,” said Rapids sports director Markus Katzer at the start of training on January 8th, referring to Marco Grüll.

Ten days later, the Green-Whites have a concrete offer for their winger from Union Berlin (all information >>>), and an interested party from the summer is now involved in the courtship of the ÖFB player: Mainz 05.

According to “Sky” information, the club of ÖFB legionnaires Philipp Mwene and Karim Onisiwo is also looking at the 25-year-old. Since there is still no agreement between Rapid and Union on the transfer fee and the talks are said to have stalled, Mainz sees its chance to snatch Grüll away from the Berliners.

“Sportbild” reported at the end of September about a possible winter transfer of the top performer to the 05ers. Mainz then strengthened themselves with the clubless Anwar El Ghazi, who was, however, terminated without notice after a short time.

As is well known, Grüll’s contract in Vienna-Hütteldorf expires in the summer, so Rapid can only achieve a transfer fee until the end of the current transfer window.
