Lawsuit Filedโฃ in Death of Soul Singer Angie Stone, citing โDriver Negligence andโฃ Faulty Truck System
BIRMINGHAM, AL – A โwrongful death lawsuit has been filed by the children of soul singer Angie Stone, along with a survivor of the March traffic accident that claimed โขher โlife,โข against multiple parties including the drivers of the vehicles involved, the owners of the busโ and truck, โขand the โฃtruck’s manufacturer. The suit alleges negligence and a failureโฃ of safety systems contributed to the fatal crash.
Stone, 63, โขdiedโ following an accident in March while traveling by bus with her entourageโ after a performance in Alabama. While initial reports indicatedโ allโฃ passengers survived the immediate impact, Stoneโ was fatally โinjured โwhen aโ sugar-laden truck collided with the vanโ she was in as she attempted to exit. Five of the nine passengers were initiallyโ helped from the vehicleโค byโ bystanders.
The lawsuit detailsโ that the driver ofโข theโข van lost control of the vehicle, a Mercedes Sprinter, and struck a guardrail while attempting to re-enter the highway. However, the complaint further alleges the driver of the truck involved was wearing headphones, listening โto music, and traveling at approximately 68 miles per hour (110 kilometers per hour) whenโ it struck Stone’s van. โ
Prosecutors contend โขthe โขtruck’s warning system, wich should have alerted โฃthe driver to the disabled van, wasโข malfunctioning. Theโค suit names Stone’sโ children, Diamond Stone and Michael โArcher, and one of the accident โsurvivors as plaintiffs.
angie โขStone began her career in 1979 with the hip-hop โฃgroup The Sequence,โ lauded by Rolling Stone โฃas “the first ladies of โคhip-hop,” and achieved success โคwithโ the song Funk You Up. She later transitionedโ to a solo careerโค inโ R&B and soul, releasing her debut album Black Diamond in 1999. Her tenth and final album, Love Language, โwas re-released in 2023.
Just weeks before โthe accident, Stone โposted on Instagram expressing excitement โabout a new phase in her career, stating, “Everything I don’t want โto reveal yetโฆBut you can see thatโฃ there is a big smile on my face.”
The defendants have yetโ to respond to the indictment.
