Haiti’s Historic World Cup Qualification Amidst Crisis and Chaos

Haiti Qualifies for World cup, Overcoming Adversity to Reach Historic Milestone

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – ‍ In a stunning display of resilience and teamwork, Haiti’s national ‌football team has secured a place in the upcoming World ⁤Cup,‍ marking onyl the second time the nation will compete on the world stage – their first appearance was‌ in 1974.⁤ The qualification ⁢comes despite years‍ of challenges, including playing the majority of their “home” games on neutral⁤ ground due to ongoing violence within⁤ the⁢ country.

The decisive victory came Tuesday night against Nicaragua,a 2-0 win fueled by goals ⁢from Louicius (8th minute,left-footed shot)⁣ and Providence (just before halftime, header). The‍ final whistle sparked jubilant celebrations, with forward Duckens ‌Picault, initially left off the squad for the match against Nicaragua, leading the charge. Picault, wearing the shirt he was injured in against Honduras, exuberantly ‍removed his jersey and tossed it into the ⁤air alongside teammates.

“It was very difficult because we‍ play many of our home games on a neutral court. We don’t⁣ have many fans […] ‍ The courts can ⁤be very difficult and you don’t feel at ‍home,” Picault explained in ‌a press conference last⁤ Wednesday. “What‌ we have always had is mutual ‌support as a⁤ group and the ⁤support‌ of our people in Haiti.” He added, “it ⁣has not been ‌an easy road at all.”

The road to qualification has been especially ⁢arduous. Football advancement in Haiti was severely hampered by the devastating⁢ earthquake‍ of January⁣ 2010, with the⁤ national team not returning to play untill 2012, in a home match against the Virgin Islands in Port-au-Prince.

Currently, ⁤all 26 players‍ on the Haitian national team ⁤play for clubs‍ outside of haiti, collectively boasting a market value of approximately $46.6 million (40.4 million euros) according to Transfermarket. This⁢ value is comparable to that of British forward marcus rashford, who plays for Barcelona.

Haiti’s previous successes include winning the Caribbean Cup in 2007 ⁢and the‌ concacaf Cup in 1973 – ⁤the latter victory ⁤securing their initial World Cup berth in 1974.They now aim to surpass their previous ‌performance and advance beyond the group stage.

This qualification ⁣is one of several notable⁤ achievements within ‌the Concacaf region this week. Curazão‘s draw against Jamaica (0-0) also secured their first-ever ‌World Cup ⁢appearance, while Suriname and Jamaica remain in contention for a spot through⁤ March’s play-offs. The United States, canada, and Mexico have already secured direct qualification as tournament hosts.

The Haitian team’s success⁣ stands ‌as a testament to ⁣their unwavering ‍spirit and determination in the face of critically important adversity, offering a moment of national ‌pride⁢ for a country grappling with ongoing ⁢challenges. They now prepare to compete in the largest⁤ World Cup in history, hosted across North America.

A portrait of Klimt Sells for $236M: Exploring Art’s Value

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor November 19, 2025
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

NEW ⁢YORK - Gustav Klimt‘s ⁢”Portrait of⁢ Elisabeth Lederer” sold for ⁤$236 million at Sotheby’s on Tuesday, becoming the most⁤ expensive ⁢work ‌of⁤ modern art ever auctioned. The⁣ sale ⁤price, including fees, surpassed the previous record⁣ of $209.3 million paid for Amedeo Modigliani‘s ⁣”Nu couché” in 2015.

The portrait, depicting Elisabeth Lederer, a ‌prominent Viennese socialite, was painted between 1914 and 1916. It had been in the collection of Steve⁢ Cohen, owner of the New York jets and a major art collector, who acquired the piece when gold prices were around $1,200 per ounce.

The artwork is⁣ one of three in ⁢Klimt’s “America” series, with the frist exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 2016. The Guggenheim offered⁤ the sculpture to‍ than-President Donald⁢ Trump when he requested a loan of a Van Gogh painting for the White House.

Another ‍sculpture from the series was stolen in London after being exhibited⁤ there and was believed to have been melted down for its gold content – the work is made⁤ of 102.8 kilos of ⁣18-carat gold. Authorities‍ detained ⁤two suspects, but the piece was never ⁤recovered.

The auction result comes⁢ as the price of gold has increased by 48% compared to⁣ last year, exceeding $4,000 per ounce in October, driven by uncertainty in the US economy. The‍ piece ‍was ‌awarded for $12.10 million after ⁣a single ⁢bid, with the symbolic‌ value estimated at $2.1 million based on auction⁢ house rates.

The Albanian mafia of the Sinaloa Cartel casinos made simulated bets and millionaire transfers abroad

Sinaloa Cartel ⁤Casinos Used Simulated Bets, Transfers to Launder Millions, U.S. Treasury Alleges

CULIACÁN,MEXICO – A network of ten casinos across ‌Mexico allegedly laundered⁢ over $2 million⁣ for the Sinaloa Cartel ⁣between 2017⁤ and 2024,utilizing simulated‌ bets and large international transfers, according to a recent U.S. Treasury Department investigation. The Financial⁣ Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) detailed the scheme, which involved casinos Midas, Emine, Mirage, Palermo, and Skampa, located in Sonora, Sinaloa, Baja California, and⁤ Tabasco. The sanctions ⁤come amid⁣ increased scrutiny of Mexican financial ‌institutions and a crackdown on ‍money laundering operations linked to drug ‌trafficking.

The ‌U.S. Treasury’s Office‍ of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) complaint alleges senior managers at ‌the Midas Casino in Mazatlán made monthly disbursements to the cartel as part of a standing agreement‍ with a high-ranking member. The Emine‍ casinos in⁤ San ‌Luis Río Colorado‍ and Palermo in⁢ Nogales (both in Sonora), along with Skampa Casino in Ensenada, Baja California, ⁤and Mirage in Culiacán, Sinaloa, reportedly operate under ‍the ‌same Midas directors, extending the illicit ⁢network to additional locations in ‍Agua Prieta, Guamúchil, Los Mochis, and Mazatlán (all in Sonora), Rosarito (Baja⁢ California), and Villahermosa (Tabasco).

FinCEN’s report indicates ⁢cartel operatives provided ⁤casino⁣ management with specific instructions to‍ evade ‍anti-money laundering controls. these⁤ included limiting‍ deposits to designated bank accounts to no more than 90,000 ⁤pesos (approximately $4,354 USD) and avoiding consecutive-day deposits to prevent account blockage. ‍Alternatively, cartel members were permitted to⁣ directly withdraw funds in person at the Midas Casino in Mazatlán.

The investigation⁤ revealed the cartel utilized over 30 Mexican-based ‍shell company bank⁤ accounts for ⁢cash deposits,⁣ further obscuring the source of funds.‌ These actions follow ⁣the recent blocking of accounts at‍ 13 other Mexican casinos by Mexican⁣ authorities, prompted by similar concerns ⁤regarding cash operations, international flows, ⁣and the use of unregulated digital platforms. The ‌U.S.actions underscore growing international pressure on Mexico to combat⁢ financial ⁢crimes fueling the drug trade.

Trump Intensifies Pressure on Venezuela with Military Build-Up and Terrorist Designation

Trump Signals Potential⁤ Dialog with Venezuela’s Maduro Amid Escalating Drug trafficking Accusations

PALM BEACH, FL – Former President Donald Trump has indicated a willingness to ‍engage in conversations with Venezuelan President nicolás Maduro, stating, “It is possible that we are having conversations ⁣with Maduro. We will see how it turns out.” The‌ revelation comes as U.S. pressure on Venezuela intensifies over allegations of Maduro’s involvement in drug trafficking and “narcoterrorism,” prompting a controversial U.S. military campaign in the Caribbean sea and Eastern Pacific.

The potential for dialogue marks a shift in approach, even ⁤as the U.S. government has been actively seeking Maduro’s ⁣removal. This escalation began last summer with a $50 million‍ reward offered for details leading to Maduro’s arrest, based on accusations he leads “The Cartel of the suns,” a plot allegedly linking him to‍ powerful criminal organizations in Mexico and Colombia. The situation is further complicated by recent U.S. sanctions against Colombian President Gustavo Petro, accused of being an ally ‍of the Venezuelan regime and linked to the same alleged drug trafficking network.

As August, the U.S. military has conducted a campaign of attacks against vessels suspected of carrying drugs near Venezuela and Colombia, bombing 21 boats and resulting in 83 deaths. U.S. authorities have yet to publicly provide⁢ evidence ⁣linking these vessels directly‌ to drug cartels. The‌ Treasury Department’s inclusion of President Petro on it’s OFAC sanctions list further‌ underscores the broadening scope of the U.S. crackdown.

Trump‍ made the comments while at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, adding he had “more or⁤ less made a decision” regarding next steps in Venezuela, but ‍declined to elaborate. The situation raises questions about the⁤ future of U.S. policy toward Venezuela and the potential for a ⁣negotiated resolution to the ongoing political and economic crisis.

Title: Trump’s Venezuela Strategy: US Military Action and CIA Involvement Revealed

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 15, 2025
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Trump Considers Options for Venezuela ‌Amidst Escalating Caribbean Operations

Following briefings from defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chief of Staff Gen. Dan Caine, former President Trump is weighing potential responses to the⁤ situation in Venezuela, ⁤as the U.S. military continues “Operation Lanza del Sur” – a major operation against “narcoterrorism” in Latin ⁣America. The briefings, held Wednesday and Friday, come as U.S. forces have engaged in over twenty⁤ attacks against ⁣suspected drug boats in the Caribbean ⁢Sea and eastern Pacific, resulting in at⁤ least eighty fatalities. These operations are occurring in international waters, near the border with Venezuelan territorial waters.

Hegseth announced the launch of Operation Lanza del⁢ Sur on social media on november 13th, framing the attacks as part‍ of this broader effort.⁤ While Trump initially stated the‍ operations were successfully curbing drug flow to the U.S. and suggested potential “actions on land” as a next step, he has since moderated his ⁢rhetoric.

In a recent interview with 60 Minutes on CBS, Trump acknowledged that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro‘s time in power “are numbered,” ⁢but deemed a direct U.S. military conflict with Venezuela unlikely. Ten days prior, during ‍a⁣ briefing on Capitol Hill led by ⁢Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Administration representatives denied⁣ any plans for an attack on Venezuela.

The U.S. government justifies the military campaign as a necessary⁤ measure to combat drug trafficking and‍ the resulting deaths within the country. Though, the operation has ‌drawn criticism from ‍experts, human ‌rights advocates, and legislators ⁤who argue it is indeed illegal⁣ due ‌to a⁢ lack of Congressional ⁣authorization. The Administration has designated several cartels as international terrorist organizations, claiming its members are enemy combatants and thus justifying the operation as a “direct and non-international armed conflict” – negating the need for Congressional approval.

The scale of the deployment has fueled speculation that the true objective extends beyond drug ⁢interdiction, perhaps aiming to destabilize⁢ or force a change in the Chavista regime. Washington has increasingly linked Maduro to ‍drug cartels, accusing him ⁤of leading these organizations and relying on drug smuggling revenue to survive international ⁣sanctions. The reward for Maduro’s capture was increased‍ to $50 million in‌ August.

Alongside the attacks on suspected drug boats, the U.S. is conducting bomber training flights near the Venezuelan coast and has authorized the CIA to undertake covert actions within Venezuela, further⁤ escalating pressure on the Maduro ‌government.

The Trump Administration Tightens Visa Restrictions Based on Health and Finances

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 14, 2025

Trump Administration to Deny Visas Based on Potential Healthcare Costs

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Trump Administration has implemented a policy allowing for the denial of visas to⁣ immigrants deemed likely to require notable medical care or unable to afford it,significantly broadening grounds for rejection. The new directive instructs consular officials to consider conditions like obesity, diabetes,⁢ and cardiovascular disease when ‍evaluating visa applications.

The⁣ policy expands the list of medical conditions considered ⁢disqualifying beyond communicable diseases such as measles, poliomyelitis, ⁤and hepatitis B. ⁣It empowers immigration officials to deny visas ‍based solely on an applicant’s ‍health status and ⁤their financial capacity to cover potential healthcare expenses without ⁣relying on U.S. ⁢public assistance. A recent internal cable reportedly asks officials to ⁢assess, “does the applicant have sufficient financial resources to cover the costs of such care throughout his or her life expectancy,⁤ without resorting to⁣ cash public assistance or prolonged institutionalization at the expense of the Government?”

The move‍ has‍ drawn criticism for possibly contradicting the State Department’s Foreign Affairs manual, which previously prohibited rejecting applications based on hypothetical future ⁢scenarios. ⁢Charles Wheeler, senior attorney for the Catholic⁣ Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC), ⁣expressed concern that “these personnel have ⁢no medical training,⁤ lack experience in this area and should⁤ not make projections based on their personal knowledge or‌ prejudices.”

The policy also extends to the health of family members, questioning whether dependents’ disabilities ⁤or chronic ⁢illnesses could hinder the visa holder’s ability to⁤ maintain employment. Officials and examining doctors‌ are now permitted to speculate on the future cost of medical⁤ care and an applicant’s ability to secure employment offering adequate medical insurance.

With approximately 10% of the global population suffering‍ from diabetes and cardiovascular diseases being the‌ leading cause of death worldwide,‍ the policy is ⁢expected to ‌significantly restrict immigration to the United States.
