Man Accused โof McHenry Park Attackโ Deemedโ Fit for Evaluation of insanity Defense
McHenry, IL -โ A man accused of a brutal, unprovoked attack at Petersen Park in McHenry on May 5, wich left a woman seriously injured, has been deemed fit to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determineโข his mental state atโข the time of the alleged crime. Prosecutors โallegeโค that during the attack, the โsuspect, identified as โขAnthony Link, claimed he was “an angel of death.”
the case hinges on โwhether Anthony Link,โ 31, was legally insaneโฃ when he allegedly attempted to murder the woman, prompting a โขgood Samaritan to โคintervene and sustainโ injuries โขas well. McHenry County Judgeโ Tiffany Davis granted a request from the โState’s Attorney’s office toโข have their own forensicโ psychiatrist โevaluateโ Link while he is detained in the McHenry County Jail.โ This evaluation will allow prosecutors to potentially challenge the affirmative defense of insanity โขraised by Link’s defense counsel, who have presented expert testimonyโ suggestingโฃ Link was insane during the offense.โ
During a hearing on Thursday, Link waived his rightโ to a jury trial. McHenry County assistantโ State’s Attorney Ashley romito filed the โmotion โขfor โthe state’s psychiatric evaluation, โฃseeking to rebut the defense’s claim.Judge โDavis โขalso found Link in โขcontempt of โขcourtโ for his behavior during theโ hearing.
Prosecutors stated Link told โpolice โคhe attacked โthe woman because he believed he was “anโ angel of death,” according to โฃABC7. They further โฃasserted the โคwoman’s โlife would have been in dangerโ had itโข not been for the โคintervention of a bystander. A status hearing for the fitness evaluation and trial is scheduled for November 20.
