## Teenagers Killed in Johannesburg Shooting Linked to Gang Violence
At least two teenagers are dead following a shooting in Westbury, a suburb of Johannesburg, South africa. Authorities believe the incident is connected to ongoing gang-related conflict in the area.
According to SABC News, six teenagers, ranging in age from 14 to 19, were shot. Emergency services transported the victims to a local hospital where two were pronounced dead upon arrival. Four others are currently receiving medical treatment.
Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili stated that three suspects,believed to be affiliated with a rival gang,are alleged to have opened fire on the group. The Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, along with SAPS Forensic Services and district Crime Intelligence, are currently investigating and working to locate the suspects.
Private security firm Vision Tactical, which responded to the scene, initially reported that seven children had been shot and were in critical condition. They later confirmed the deaths of two and the presence of emergency services and police.
The shooting occurred in westbury, a suburb within Gauteng province, known for its history of gang violence fueled by illegal firearms and territorial disputes. Earlier this year, police attempting to arrest a man for drug possession in Westbury were attacked by residents with rocks and bottles, forcing a temporary withdrawal and sparking criticism from authorities.
Evidence of the incident, including a police cordon, markers, and officers, has been shared on social media. The ongoing violence continues to create fear amongst local civilians.
