Pasak Chonlasit Dam Increases Drainage Amid rising Water Levels, Residents Warned
SARABURI – Authorities announced today, September 20, 2025, an increase in water drainage from teh Pasak Chonlasit dam (No. 8) to manage rising water levels and mitigate potential impacts on communities along the Pa Sak River. The move comes as inflow to the dam continues to increase.
Currently, the dam holds 709 million cubic meters of water, representing 74% of its total capacity. Inflow is measured at 614 cubic meters per second (53 million cubic meters per day), while the current drainage rate is 400 cubic meters per second (34 million cubic meters per day). The Sak Saksit Water Delivery and Maintenance Project will incrementally increase drainage to 500 cubic meters per second to maintain safe water levels.This adjustment is particularly crucial for low-lying areas susceptible to flooding.
The drainage increase will occur in stages: a rise to 450 cubic meters per second on september 20, 2025, followed by an increase to 500 cubic meters per second on September 21, 2025. Consequently, water levels in the Pa Sak River are expected to rise approximately 1.30 to 1.50 meters, perhaps impacting areas like the Ton Tan floating market in Ton Tan Subdistrict, Sao Hai District, Saraburi Province. Residents in these areas are advised to closely monitor the water situation and prepare for potential disruptions.
