Actor, screenwriter and former member of parliament Risto Autio turns 70. She is looking forward to Saturday’s party, where her own son will also perform. The birthday hero has had time to pursue many different careers. It is probably a consequence of his motto “Dare to live”. But the price of the moto was high.

Fatal crash

In 1968, a fatal car crash took the life of Auti’s mother and crippled his father. Only a year later, Autio himself had to have a baby. He left his last summer shift at restaurant Mercuri on a racing bike towards Kannelmäki. The bike got stuck in the gutter on the side of the road and the aerial flight to the trolley rails was wild. Fortunately, the wheelbarrow didn’t come.

An understanding arose that life can end at any time.

– If you want to experience and do things in life, then just do it, Autio understood.

Flying fascinated the young Autio. He started pilot training at Finnair, when the psychologist of the training went into the creative field.

– It was right.

Autio had also completed a flight training course, which was followed by a multi-year career at Finnair. At the same time, he ran a sports shop with his friend.

Once on the flight was the famous model Anna-Liisa Suotsi. A couple of weeks after the flight, the phone rang. Sweden inquired if Autios would join the Adidas team as a dancer for the ISPO trade fair in Munich. Athletic Autio was, not dancing – but he was chosen from the audition.

In 1981, the phone rang again. This time the caller was Jorma Uotinen’s assistant. Autio drove his moped to Finlandia Hall for the meeting and the green light came. Autio was involved in the music and dance piece made by Matti and Pirjo Bergström and Jorma Uotinen Finnish clothing‒ don’tä season. Its final scene changed everything.

At the end of the performance, Autio had to walk to the girl lying on the ground and carry her away. Halfway through his journey, he always burst into tears.

– I was crying for my mother, Autio thinks.

Autio had been hit on the head with a stick: an understanding of acting had been born. In 1982, he got into Teatterikorkeakoulu on the first try. This was followed by an engagement at the Kotka City Theater. He didn’t get there – because the phone rang. The caller was Uotinen’s assistant.

Autio started his career at the Helsinki City Theater Cats– in the musical. At the same time, text began to emerge. Autio wrote a novel, but he was also born Battery guy -radio play. Then the film was born, more listens, awarded A better task -radio play. The 1993 channel reform brought TV jobs.

In the fall of 1994, the phone rang at seven o’clock in the morning. It was requested Home street.

It gave birth to a separate career as a dance stage and shipboard entertainer, when Autio sang the theme music of the series and the album’s theme music.

In 2007, Autio became a Member of Parliament. He considers his political career a bit of a mistake, but he fondly remembers his work at the Nordic Council. In the same year, Autio and his then-wife had twins and wanted to be fully present in their lives.

Health

In 2011, Autio fell on a slippery road while walking to Pasila station. The legs went out from under in a different direction, tearing the thigh muscle apart. When the rehabilitation was already in good shape, the severe pains started. Auti was diagnosed with polymyositis. Finally came the disability pension.

Autio admits that he is a little bitter. If there is a higher entity, why is he being punished with such a big hand in the form of health problems.

– I miss running or walking in general.

Medicines do not take away rheumatism and nerve pain, cortisone has thinned the skin, which is why even a small bump causes a bad effect. The former musician’s songs have been left behind due to asthma. In addition, he has a heart defect and high blood pressure.

– I haven’t completely lost hope, he emphasizes.

Autio has five children from two unions, three bonus children and soon six grandchildren.

– My own children bring me joy.

The twins run around the hut and help their father. For his grandchildren, Autio is Ripappa.

Autio lives single. Kotikatu-role sits firmly in people’s minds, and you shouldn’t try to go to bars, because someone always has something to do. Kotikatu-gang recently met peacefully with each other.

– It was really nice. We are going to take on new ones, Autio reveals.
