Troy University Reaches Peak Accreditation, Signaling Rise asโ a Doctoral Research Institution
Troy, AL – Troy University has โขachieved the highest level of accreditation possible, reaching Level VI classification from theโ Southern Associationโข of colleges โขand Schools Commission on โColleges (SACSCOC). This milestone, triggeredโ by the โlaunch โof its fourth doctoral program – aโฃ Ph.D.in criminology this fall – underscores the university’s critically โคimportant evolution into โa comprehensive doctoral institution.
SACSCOC, Troy University’s regional accrediting body, bases its institutional ranking on the highest degree level โขoffered. Wiht the addition of the Criminology Ph.D., joining existing doctoral programs inโข Nursing Practice โข(2010), Sport Management (2017), and Global leadership โข(2020), Troyโ University now โขstands at the pinnacle of academic classification.
“This isโ aโ defining moment for Troy University,”โข stated โChancellor Dr.Jack Hawkins, Jr. “From our roots as a teacher’s college,we’ve consistently โคpursued growth and excellence. Achieving Level VI isn’t just a recognition of past accomplishments; it’s a launchpad for even โฃgreater โคachievements, fueled by the dedication of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni.”
The university has already seenโข ample success with โitsโ doctoral โprograms, having graduated over 230 students and currently enrolling more than 500 across all four disciplines.
Faculty innovationโ was โspecifically highlightedโ as a key driverโข of this success. Dr.โค Mary Anne Templeton, Associate Provost โขfor Academics, lauded โขthe faculty’s commitment to developing cutting-edgeโ programs. “Their vision and willingness to push boundaries have โpositioned โTroyโ University among the nation’sโค leading institutions,” she said.
This SACSCOC advancement comes on the heels of other recent accolades, including recognition asโค a Doctoral University in theโ 2025 Carnegie Classifications and a Carnegie Research Universityโ – a designation reserved for โsmaller institutions demonstrating significant research contributions. An instructionalโ role change approved byโข theโ Alabama Commission on higher Education in 2023 further paved the way for expanded doctoral offerings.
Looking ahead, โTroy University aims to build on this momentum and achieveโ R2โค research โฃinstitution status. “This SACSCOC recognition is a crucialโ step in our journey,”โ explainedโ Dr. Kerry Palmer, Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.โฃ “we are dedicated to expanding ourโ research enterprise โand fostering aโ culture of โdiscovery that will benefit both our academic reputation and the communities we serve.”
