A multi-vehicle collision on the A1 motorway near Bucharest, Romania, on Saturday, August 30th, resulted in injuries to six individuals, including two children. Emergency responders initially activated a red intervention plan due to the potential for multiple entrapments.
The incident occurred at approximately 17:35 local time (EEST) between Floreşti and stoeneşti, at kilometer 35 on the Bucharest-Piteşti stretch of the highway.Authorities restricted traffic flow in the area to facilitate rescue operations and examination. The A1 motorway is a critical transportation artery connecting the capital city with the Argeș County region, and disruptions impact regional commerce and travel.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), initial reports indicated eight people were involved, with two individuals initially trapped inside their vehicles. Firefighters worked to extricate the occupants. IGSU later confirmed that six people required medical attention and were transported to area hospitals for further evaluation and treatment. All transported individuals were conscious and cooperative with medical personnel.
Responding to the scene were crews from ISU Giurgiu and the County Ambulance Service, deploying two SMURD ambulances each. Additional support arrived from ISU BIF, including a mobile intensive care unit and two further SMURD ambulances. An extinguishing vehicle was also dispatched to the location.
As of 19:30 local time, IGSU deactivated the red intervention plan, indicating the situation had stabilized. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by authorities. further updates will be provided as they become available.
