DALLAS, โTX – A shooting atโ a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement โฃ(ICE) detention facility in Dallas, Texas, on Tuesday, september 24,โ 2024, left two detainees dead and one injured, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Authorities report a sniper opened fire on the โขfacility,prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.
The incident underscores escalating concerns โขregarding security at immigration facilities and reignites โdebate surrounding the safety of both those โขdetained and the personnel tasked with their custody. Ohio Senator J.D. Vance expressed his concern, stating, “We’reโฃ praying both for our ICE agents, but also โfor everybody who’s affectedโ by this โขterrible attack.”
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons โคannounced that all ICE facilities nationwide โฃwouldโ be placed โon heightened alert to โฃensure the protection of agents and civilians involved in the agency’s operations.
House Democratic leaders released a statement commending first responders and โextending condolences to the families of the victims. The statement further emphasized, “No one in America โshoudl be violently targeted, including our men and women in law enforcement who protect and serve our neighborhoods, and the immigrants who are too ofen the victims ofโฃ dehumanizing rhetoric.” They added, “the political and ideologically-motivated violence in America has reached aโ breakingโ point this โคyear. โคWe need leaders who bring the country together in moments of crisis.”
