T-Mobile buys telecom provider Simpel | NOW

The Dutch T-Mobile has taken over the telecom provider Simpel, the companies announced on Friday morning.

It is not known exactly what T-Mobile paid for Simpel. “We do not make any statements about that”, a spokesperson tells NU.nl.

Simpel was also part of T-Mobile from the end of 2010 to August 2014, when it was a telecom brand. After that, the company broke away from the provider via a management buy-out.

According to Simpel CEO Jasper de Rooij, the number of customers at the provider has grown since then and this was a good time to sell the company again. T-Mobile is the logical buyer, according to the CEO.

Tele2 was also taken over by T-Mobile

T-Mobile also bought the telecom provider Tele2 at the end of 2017, reducing the number of providers with their own telecom networks in the Netherlands from four to three.

The acquisition of Simpel has yet to be approved, but is less controversial than that of Tele2. The newly purchased provider has been using T-Mobile’s network for years.
