‘Syria furious about legal attack in the Netherlands’ | Inland

The Syrian state news agency SANA cites an Foreign Affairs source accusing the Netherlands of abusing its position as host of legal bodies dealing with such cases. “The Dutch government is determined to use the International Court of Justice in The Hague to serve the political agendas of its American master,” said the spokesman for Foreign Affairs.

He added that what the Netherlands is doing is “a disgraceful violation of its obligations and commitment as the headquarters of this international organization.”

The Dutch government announced on Friday that it will go all legal ways to ensure that the Syrian rulers are ultimately held responsible for their atrocities during the nearly decade-long civil war. An attempt to have them brought to trial by the International Criminal Court in The Hague in the long run failed in 2014 due to a veto by Russia, Syrian President Assad’s main ally, and China.
