JAKARTA – In some cases, early symptoms of diabetes especially type 2 diabetes , will be faint and difficult to identify. However, sometimes there are some symptoms that will appear, such as darkened areas of the skin.

The medical term for this skin condition is acanthosis nigricans, and it is the first symptom that a person has diabetes. This condition causes discolored skin to darken like velvet. It usually affects people who are overweight.

Reported from Express, Sunday (20/3/2022) acanthosis nigricans can be a warning sign high blood sugar or prediabetes. Although there are some symptoms, many people develop type 2 diabetes without realizing it, because the symptoms don’t always make you feel unwell.

The Mayo Clinic says signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes often develop slowly. In addition, people can live with type 2 diabetes for years and not realize it.

When signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes appear, these include areas of darkened skin, usually in the armpits and neck. Other symptoms include increased thirst, frequent urination, increased hunger and unintentional weight loss.

Fatigue, blurred vision, sores that are slow to heal, frequent infections and numbness or tingling in the hands or feet. You should see your GP if you have any of the symptoms of type 2 diabetes or are concerned about having a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

It is very important for diabetes to be diagnosed as soon as possible because it will only get worse if left untreated. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body doesn’t produce enough insulin to function properly, or the body’s cells don’t react to insulin.

This means that glucose remains in the blood and is not used as fuel for energy. Type 2 diabetes is often associated with obesity and tends to be diagnosed in the elderly. Due to the increase in obesity, type 2 diabetes is now seen in young people and all ages. It is much more common than type 1 diabetes.
