Symphony musicians from the Lower Rhine welcome the new year with bandoneon sounds

Krefeld / Mönchengladbach. 2021 will be the 100th anniversary of Astor Piazzolla’s birthday, Heinrich Band would have been 200 years old. Both are united by the instrument bandoneon. Heinrich Band, Krefeld musician, music teacher and music dealer, once invented it by further developing the concertina instrument. While Band spent his entire life in his hometown, at the end of the 19th century “his” instrument made its way to South America, where Astor Piazzolla and his “Tango Nuevo” made it the central instrument of Argentine tango music. GMD Mihkel Kütson and the Niederrheinische Sinfoniker wanted to celebrate this double birthday of Piazzolla and band with their New Year’s concert in 2021, the corona regulations prevented this. Instead, the audience can now look forward to a lot of passionate tango music by Astor Piazzolla at the New Year’s Concert 2022, traditionally on January 1st at 11 a.m. in the Theater Krefeld and at 8 p.m. in the Theater Mönchengladbach – as a kind of conclusion to the previous anniversary year – including, of course, “Libertango” and “Adios nonino”. The soloist on the bandoneon is Kaspar Uljas, an expert in Argentinian bandoneon music who has performed in Europe, Russia, Argentina and Palestine.

As a greeting to the famous New Year’s Concert in Vienna, the Niederrheinische Sinfoniker also play some lively melodies from the Strauss dynasty.
