According to the organizers, listeners will be introduced to the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius’s “Tuonela’s Swan” and the Sixth Symphony, as well as to the most famous Latvian waltz – Emils Darzins’ “Melancholic Waltz”, both musically and visually.

“Symphonic hits with Goran Gora” is a multimedia concert cycle with added educational value, which LNSO has been offering listeners since 2014. It is primarily intended for young people, but it also gives an opportunity for interesting people of any other age without experience in enjoying classical music to get to know this field of music in an exciting way.

In the concerts of the cycle, the singer Goran Gora reveals to the listeners the context of the composition of the composition, the most significant historical details, the life story of the composer, as well as interesting sonic nuances that should be paid attention to while listening to music. The author of witty, easy-to-understand stories is the writer Jānis Joņevs – the author of “Jelgava-94” and the co-author of the script of JRT’s multi-series art film “Agency”. The author of the animation idea is the winner of the “Purvītis Prize”, the artist Krišs Salmanis, and the director of the animation is the author of many multimedia productions Roberts Rubīns.

The April 21 concert will be put together Emils Darzins (1875–1910) and Jean Sibelius (1865–1957), two composers with complex relationships. Emils Dārziņš had a fateful misfortune with his Finnish colleague “Tuonelas gulbis” – an imitation of this opus was attributed to Dārziņš’s composition “Lonely Pine”. The sensitive composer, shattered by such an insult, burned the score in the flames of the fireplace. We will never know how Darzins’ “Lonely Pine” sounded, but at least we have the outstanding “Melancholic Waltz” full of sensitive lyricism, whose score was restored. In the concert you will also be able to hear Sibelius’s poem “Tuonela’s Swan”, which is destined for Dārziņš ‘muse. The program will be crowned by Sibelius’ Sixth Symphony. It is significant that all compositions will be performed by LNSO under the direction of Sibelius’ compatriot – the young Finnish multitalant Tavi Oramo.

According to the concert organizers, thanks to the modern approach to music performances, Tavi Oramo’s reputation is gaining momentum in the eyes of critics, promising him a bright future. As a residence artist, he has worked in the Finnish orchestra “Tapiola Sinfonietta”, and in 2020 he was the artistic director of the “VocalEspoo” festival. Oramo is also a recognized tenor. The dual role of conducting and singing, as well as the skills of the clarinetist and electronic music creator, strongly influence the choice of Oramo’s repertoire, from improvisation to multidisciplinary collaboration.

The live broadcast of the concert will be available on Wednesday, April 21 from 7 pm to 8 pm free of charge LNSO website, On Facebook profile a YouTube account.
