The unemployment rate according to the criteria of the International Labor Office (ILO) increased from 4.2% to 4.6% in the period under review, according to the latest figures published by the Federal Statistical Office (OFS ) Thursday (archives).

The number of employed people fell by 1.6% between the second quarter of 2019 and the second quarter of 2020, the largest drop since 1993.
In terms of full-time equivalents (FTE), the one-year contraction corresponds to 1.2% (-0.4% for men and -2.4% for women).
After adjusting for seasonal variations, the number of active workers and that of FTEs fell by 2.5% and 2.2% respectively in the period under review.
Foreigners penalized more
The number of employed Swiss nationals fell by 2.4%, while the number of employed foreign nationals increased slightly by 0.2%.
In the second quarter of 2020, Switzerland deplored 223,000 people unemployed according to ILO standards, 17,000 more than a year earlier.
By way of comparison, the unemployment rate rose from 6.6% to 6.9% over the same period in the euro zone.
In September the FSO will publish more detailed analyzes on the evolution of the labor market under the effect of the pandemic.
