Switzerland: Under the flags, 11,600 recruits expected – Switzerland

Approximately 1,280 people will serve in one round as long-serving soldiers. In addition, some 2,600 executives will pay their stripes.

The female representation is slightly higher than that of January 2019 (120 recruits), the Defense Department said in a statement on Monday. The share of women in the Swiss Army remains just below the 1% threshold.

The army is keen to prevent people who pose a potential risk to themselves or those around them from completing the school for recruits. For the first ER 2020, 65 convocation bans were pronounced due to incidents that occurred after successful recruitment.

During the recruit school, 28 unit commanders, 367 section chiefs, 183 senior non-commissioned officers and 2047 non-commissioned officers will pay their stripes. An officer who has finished paying his stripes may receive from the Swiss Army a training allowance to be used later for training or further training in civilian life. The amount depends on the grade and the duration of the instruction. (Ps / nxp)
