Residents of Blatten, a small mountain village nestled in teh Lötschental valley of Switzerland, faced a sudden and urgent evacuation Monday morning due to the imminent threat of a massive landslide. Alertswiss,the country’s warning platform,notified residents around 9:30 a.m., instructing them to only take much needed items with you and leave your house immediately.
By 10 a.m., residents gathered for further information, but the urgency remained: they were ordered to evacuate the village by 10:30 a.m.
A Mountain on the Move
This evacuation follows a previous displacement of approximately 90 inhabitants last weekend after an initial rubble stream. Though, the geological instability persists, with reconnaissance flights revealing notable subsidence and large cracks in the mountainside. Matthias Ebener, the local communication manager, described the situation as very acute
