Swimming is not recommended at popular bathing spots after the pouring rain

In some places, the downpour leads to too many intestinal bacteria in the water. It is not so easy to discover, but here you get tips on where to follow.

Alba Andresen (12) appeared in Stensrudtjern on Friday night. It was not so easy to realize that swimming is not recommended now.

Night to Friday, Oslo had the first tropical night of the year. Then it is difficult not to immerse in the water which can also maintain tropical temperature.

In Stensrudtjern in the far south of Oslo, it is 20 degrees in the water now. And a little too much other filth.

Friday night, the Urban Environment Agency returned thumbs down for the water quality in Stensrudtjern. In general, the water quality is excellent. Two samples have now been taken which show too high a concentration of intestinal bacteria.

Bernt Brundtland took Milo Andresen (9) to his favorite swimming spot. A sign 100 meters away was difficult to see.

– This place is high on the list of recommended bathing places, says Bernt Brundtland.

He has taken the family for an evening swim.

– This is a very nice place. It’s nice to have a boat here. There are floating jetties and large plains we can throw frisbees on, says Milo Andresen (9).

It is not so easy to see the small sign that has been set up in one corner of the large swimming area during the evening.

But now swimming is not recommended. The rain is to blame.

The family has not seen the sign. They have not heard that the water quality is not at its peak, until Aftenposten gives them the message.

– It may be like that when it has rained a lot, Brundtland says.

And he is absolutely right.

Therefore, the water quality is now declining

In June, July and August, Oslo Municipality takes samples of the water at 45 bathing sites. Then they measure how much intestinal bacteria there are in the water.

If it is too much, swimming is not recommended. It can happen when it rains a lot in a short time.

  • There may be too much water, and the drainage network overflows (overflow).
  • Leaks occur.
  • Water can flow from surfaces with a lot of wildlife. It can be plains with birds or agricultural areas with sheep, cows and horses.

«Episodes of heavy or prolonged precipitation make the watercourses and the areas near the outlet to the sea exposed to poor bathing water quality. We therefore operate with a general discouragement of swimming in the next 24 hours after heavy rainfall “, the Urban Environment Agency informs Aftenposten.

Thomas Horni, Camilla Kristoffersen, Kristina Kjenne and the dog Milo had nothing to complain about the temperature in the water.

– Is there any place to follow this, Thomas Horni asks.

He has just taken a bath with Camilla Kristoffersen, Kristine Kjenne and the dog Milo (2).

The answer to the question: You can follow along Oslo Municipality’s website.

– I have not thought about checking it before, Horni says.

Milo has drunk a lot of water, says food mother Kristine Kjenne. It is not recommended according to Oslo municipality.

Hardly dangerous if you swallow some water

Bathing is not recommended until new, cleaner samples are taken. The first new sample is taken on Tuesday. The answer will come on Wednesday or Thursday. The sign on Stensrudtjern will be taken down no earlier than Wednesday evening.

Aftenposten has previously written about similar tests at Sørenga in Oslo. Then the chief infection control officer said that it is hardly dangerous for people to swallow some of the water.

– The problem is if young children and people with poor immune systems swallow larger amounts, said infection control chief Tore Steen in 2015.
