Arina Baikova reached the Latvian record in the 800-meter freestyle at the Russian Open Swimming Championships in the 50-meter pool in Kazan on Monday, the Latvian Swimming Federation reports on its Twitter website.
Baikov finished in Kazan after nine minutes and 1.86 seconds, finishing second after St. Petersburg athlete Alexander Hailova, who completed the distance in eight minutes and 52.92 seconds.
Jūrmalniece was more than six seconds ahead of her closest follower Sofija Kolesnikova.
The previous Latvian record in the 50-meter pool was reached on March 1 this year, when Ieva Maļuka swam the distance in nine minutes and 2.26 seconds.
