Sweden 2020 close to breaking WRC record

Following the worrying lack of snow in the Varmland region, the organizers of the Swedish event received the approval of FIA observers on Tuesday to propose a largely revamped course.

With 11 specials reprogrammed instead of the 19 initially planned, the layout of the second round of the 2020 championship should (if the situation remains unchanged until the start) only offer 180 timed kilometers to go under the nails.

Even before departure, the 2020 Sweden Rally is already advancing as the shortest event in the history of the WRC since 1973 and its inception.

Ravaged by major forest fires this fall, the Australian Rally had seen a similar parallel to that of its Swedish counterpart. After numerous meetings, the cancellation of the lining test, the organizers had finally unveiled a sprint course spread over less than 95 kilometers before finally making the wisest decisions with the cancellation of the rally.

This time (for now), the organizers and the FIA seem to have found a solution to avoid a new snub after the cancellations of Australia 2019 and Chile 2020.

Often singled out for its conditions, which have rarely been there for several seasons, the Swedish rally should now occupy the first two places on the statistics tables. Amputated by more than 104 kilometers and 9 special stages, the 2016 edition of the Swedish test was so far, the defending champion with her course capping at the time at 226 kilometers.
