Swan loses in the first round of “French Open” qualification – Tennis

Swan, who ranks 163rd in the ATP ranking, lost to Italy Marco Chekinato with the result 3-6, 5-7, who is in the 110th position in the ranking and was placed with the fifth number in the qualification.

To reach the main event, three rounds of selection must be overcome. The loss of the first round of qualification will prevent Gulbis from getting ATP ranking points.

The swan had three “aisles” in this match, but the Italian – two elusive services. The Latvian tennis player made five double mistakes, while the opponent in this statistic remained at zero. Swan also has almost twice as many unforced errors (30/17).

The Latvian tennis player lost his first serve, but immediately regained one point with a break. However, in the eighth game of the first set, he won only one play at his service, which allowed Chekinato to reach 5-3 and then win the set.

In the third and fifth games of the second set, Gulbis played one break ball at a time, however, in the 11th family he did not defend his serve. In the following game, the Italian tennis player served for victory in the match and reached a 7-5 set, putting an end to the duel.

The two tennis players, who once played in the semi-finals of the “French Open”, have not met each other so far.

During his career, Gulbis has won six titles of the tournament winner in one game, while his opponent – three.

Swan’s best achievements in “Grand Slam” tournaments are in the French Open, where he entered the quarterfinals in 2008 and the semifinals in 2014. Last year, he was forced to resign in the first round.

In this year’s first “Grand Slam” tournament, Latvia’s first racket reached the third round, but he could not play in the “US Open” due to the low ranking, because there were no qualifying rounds in New York.

Likewise, the French Open is Chekinato’s most successful Grand Slam tournament. In 2018, he reached the semi-finals, but in all other attempts he did not win the first round in any of the four Grand Slams, including last year’s French Open.

Gulbis played the previous match in the first round of qualifying for the ATP “Masters 1000” series in Rome, where he lost to Australian Mark Polmens – 6-7 (6: 8), 1-6.

Before that, Gulbis lost in the first round of the Kitzbühel ATP “World Tour 250” series tournament, with 6-7 (3: 7), 1-6 conceding from German Jannik Hanfman.

In previous weeks, Gulbis lost three Challenger tournaments in the second match of the Czech Republic, all giving way to Russian Aslan Karacev.

This “Challenger” competition for Gulbis was the first official tournament since the Davis Cup duel with Egypt, which took place in Latvia in the beginning of March. At the end of July in Tallinn he took part in the Estonian-Latvian match, winning both singles and doubles. He has won 20 games in 30 games this season.

The Chekatoato has played nine matches in the main tournaments since the break caused by the coronavirus, celebrating five victories.

In the ATP “Masters 1000” series tournament in Rome, the Italian overcame two qualifying rounds, as well as the first round in the main tournament, recognizing the superiority of Serb Philip Krajinovich with 4-6, 1-6 in the sixteenth final.

He won one loss and a loss in the ATP “Challenger” series tournament “Open du Pays d’Aix”. Earlier in the US Open, the Italian conceded in the first round to South Africa tennis player Lloyd Harris – 4-6, 5-7, 2-6, but in mid-August in another ATP “Challenger” series tournament, Todi Chekinato won twice before losing to Jannik Hanfman.

The French Open is a clay tournament and its tennis players are the last Grand Slam of the season.

The French Open Championship will take place from September 27 to October 10.

In the men’s tournament in 2019, in the final, Spaniard Rafael Nadal defeated Austrian tennis player Dominic Tim 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 and became the winner of this competition for the 12th time.
