Freiburg (dpa) – SV Elversberg missed out on promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Horst Steffen’s team lost 2-1 (0-0) to pursuers SC Freiburg II on Saturday. With a win on matchday 36, the Saarlanders would have secured the championship title in the 3rd division for the first time.
Before the last two games, Elversberg is still clearly ahead of the pursuers Dynamo Dresden, SV Wehen Wiesbaden and 1. FC Saarbrücken. The current second Freiburg II cannot be promoted. In front of 3759 spectators in the Dreisam Stadium, Lars Kehl only scored in the 58th minute with a penalty kick and in the 67th minute after a mistake by Robin Fellhauer, who also caused the penalty. Manuel Feil reduced the deficit to 1:2 (81st) with a wonderful direct acceptance into the goal corner.
