Suspension of Fetești Bridge Toll Starting June 1, 2023: All Categories of Vehicles Included

“It’s official, from June 1 the suspension of bridge fees over the Danube, between Fetești and Cernavodă, will come into force”, announced Irinel Ionel Scrioșteanu, secretary of state in the Ministry of Transport and first vice-president of PNL Ilfov.

“Today, the order was published in the Official Gazette of Romania suspending the application of the toll for the use of the bridges over the Danube between Fetești and Cernavodă for all categories of vehicles.

This derogation comes into force from June 1, 00:00 and will be valid until the completion of the rehabilitation works of the Bridge over the Borcea branch, but no later than the end of August.

Today I was on the construction site of the Bridge over the Borcea branch A2 together with the officials from the CNAIR, to check the status of the rehabilitation and consolidation works on track 2 related to the bridge, but also to support the press, at the same time, the contractor, so that we can lift traffic restrictions in the area as quickly as possible.

This bridge is part of the 4 built approximately 40 years ago over the Danube, all of which were rehabilitated in the last 3 years, except for this last sector related to the Borcea Bridge, the most difficult, here being the most degraded portion.

Following the expertise, inspections and discoveries made, important execution deficiencies were found at the time of the bridge’s construction, such as the lack of a waterproofing layer, which led to water infiltration into the concrete under the road layers of the bridge, thus requiring the restoration of the supporting slabs of the path on the bridge (structural resistance elements).

Since it is not possible to demolish all the slabs supporting the path on the bridge over the several hundred meters long, the experts have indicated the stages of the works, stages that we want to close as soon as possible”, Irinel also transmitted Ionel Scrioșteanu.
