Suspects charged with murder of Northern Irish journalist (29) | Abroad

The new charges bring the number of murder suspects to three. A 52-year-old man was previously charged with the murder of 29-year-old McKee. Police said at the time that several people were involved in the murder and that the gunman was still at large.

The men (aged 21 and 33) are also charged with, among other things, rioting, possession of a firearm with the intent to endanger a life and arson. They were arrested on Wednesday along with two others. A 20-year-old man has been charged with rioting, possession of Molotov cocktails and throwing Molotov cocktails. The other detainee, a 19-year-old man, has been provisionally released pending an investigation.

McKee was at work when she was shot in the head on April 18, 2019. It was fired by a masked person at the police. McKee was standing next to a police car. The New IRA has admitted that one of its members is responsible for McKee’s death. Supporters of the militant Republican group oppose the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 that ended decades of violence between Irish nationalists and pro-British loyalists.

The killing of the journalist was widely condemned. The journalist’s death subsequently caused great unrest. Then British Prime Minister Theresa May called the fatal shooting “shocking and completely pointless.”
