Suspected of Hepatitis A Cause, United States and Canada Investigate Organic Strawberries All – A number of health regulators in United States of America (USA), and You have investigating the epidemic hepatitis A, the suspected cause of this outbreak is related to strawberry polluted organics.

Based on existing reports, organic strawberries it was purchased between March and April 2022. There were at least 17 cases hepatitis A reported in the United States.

A total of 15 patients were from California, one patient in Minnesota and one patient in North Dakota. Among that number, as many as 12 patients are being treated in hospital.

While in Canada, 10 people are reported to have contracted hepatitis A.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Public Health Canada, and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, along with state and local partners, are investigating the infection.

“Reported cases of hepatitis A in California, Minnesota and Canada were reinvestigated in people who purchased organic strawberries,” the FDA said in a statement. The HillSaturday (29/5/2022).

It also warned consumers not to eat strawberries, with the trademark FreshKampo and HEB which are sold in several supermarkets in the country.

“Epidemiological data and traceback indicates that fresh organic strawberries sold under the FreshKampo and HEB brands purchased between March 5, 2022 and April 25, 2022, may be the cause of this disease,” the FDA said.

In addition, the FDA also asked consumers who freeze strawberries with these brands must throw them away.

When they show up hepatitis A symptomscan immediately contact the nearest health service for a check-up.

The FDA and other authorities have disclosed that some organic strawberry products, are suspected to be causes of hepatitis A.

  • No appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Nauseous
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach ache
  • Dark urine
  • Joint pain

Close physical contact

Hepatitis A can spread from close physical contact with an infected person, for example being in the same place as a patient without personal protective equipment.

Because Hepatitis A highly contagious, patients can spread the virus before they show severe symptoms.

Eating contaminated food or drink

Contamination of food with the hepatitis A virus can occur at any time, even after cooking.

Although rare, according to the CDC, outbreaks of food-borne hepatitis A are already present in the United States among people who eat imported fresh food products, as well as contaminated frozen foods.
