‘Suspect of stabbing in Paris targeted Charlie Hebdo editorial office’ | NOW

The man who stabbed two people in Paris last Friday was targeted by the Charlie Hebdo office. Sources within the French police leave that to news agencies on Sunday Reuters in AFP know.

The stabbing with the carving knife took place at the old office of the satirical magazine. The editors of Charlie Hebdo however, has moved to a secret location after a terrorist attack in 2015.

According to police sources, the perpetrator has confessed and is cooperating with the investigation. The reason for the stabbing was probably the lawsuit against fourteen people who may be involved in the 2015 attack.

The custody of the main suspect of the stabbing was extended on Saturday. Another suspect was released earlier in the day. At the same time, the roommate of the main suspect was presumably arrested. Seven people are currently detained in connection with the stabbing.

French minister calls stabbing terrorist attack

The French minister Gérald Darmanin (Internal Affairs) announced on Friday evening that he regarded the stabbing as a terrorist attack. According to Darmanin, the main suspect is an 18-year-old Pakistani who came to France three years ago. He would have been known to the authorities because of illegal possession of weapons.

Two people were injured in Friday’s stabbing. They are now out of danger. The victims work for a production company that makes documentaries and journalistic items.
