Suspect in ‘subway’ attacks in NYPD custody

A subject is in the custody of the authorities in connection with the four stabbed victims, two of them fatally, on the same subway line.

According to NYPD Commissioner Dermon Shea: “Over the course of 24 hours we had – in our transportation system – four isolated incidents where each victim was injured with a sharp object.”

The four stabbings occurred on line A of the subway, between Friday night and Saturday.

The authorities consider that the four victims were homeless.

The first fatal attack happened around 11 pm In this regard, the uniformed officer points out that the victim was stabbed to death at the Rockaway Mott Avenue station in Queens.

Two hours later, Police say a 44-year-old woman was found, with multiple injuries to her body, inside the 207th Street station in Inwood. Ultimately, this victim died in a hospital.

A third person was attacked at another station, this time on 181st Street in Manhattan. This victim is reported to be in stable condition at an area hospital.

The NYPD has a suspicion that these three incidents are related.

On the other hand, the authority is also investigating a fourth attack that occurred on Friday morning at the 181st street station, in which a 67-year-old person was stabbed and then treated at a nearby hospital.

In response, the Police immediately deployed some 500 additional officers to monitor the mass transit system.

In this regard, Shea highlighted: “The essential thing that the public should know is that they will notice a strong police presence throughout New York City. Wherever they go on the subway, even on a platform, they will be there as long as they are needed to ensure that people be safe. ”

According to the Police, another individual they are looking for is 5 feet tall and wore a mask during the attacks.

Detectives are asking the community to report any information relevant to the cases to the NYPD.
