NEW YORK — A gunman shot multiple times at New York Police officers as they were in a marked police vehicle in the East Village on Thursday night, according to police.
Officers were looking for a man who was said to be threatening people with a weapon in the Alphabet City neighborhood just before 8 p.m., police said. When officers saw the suspect, he turned and fired multiple shots at them on East 4th Street, between Avenue C and Avenue D.
All of their shots missed the officers, who then returned fire. The suspect was also not hit by any shots, according to police.
Officers were able to take the man into custody shortly thereafter, with charges pending against the suspect who has yet to be identified.
No further details were immediately available. An investigation is ongoing.
